MEN on the pull have been warned not to get caught under the covers ... of a Harry Potter book. Article:
Thanks to Wizardnews Quote: Because women think a bloke with his head in the boy wizard's adventures is a turn-off.
But reading grown-up writers such as Nick Hornby, Ian McEwan and F Scott Fitzgerald shows the sensitivity ladies crave.
Penguin books quizzed 1000 females about the holiday reads they would look for in a mate.
They found fantasy fiction like JK Rowling's series, JRR Tolkien's Lord Of The Rings and Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels put girls off.
Sex and relationships expert Tracey Cox, from BBC2's Would Like To Meet, said men escaping into alternative realities appear to have less grip on the real world.
She added: 'They usually are so immersed in the world they're experiencing through their book, they forget about real life.
'This guy isn't going to be trendy or particularly rich.'
The most attractive genres to women are true stories, autobiographies, classics, thrillers, crime and mystery.
A heavyweight title such as Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights is more appealing than macho blockbusters by Tom Clancy.
Turn-offs include romance, sport, sci-fi and erotica.
Eight in 10 women say they check out a man's reading material.
The same number agree a man's choice of book provides a 'powerful insight' into his personality.
Tracey added: 'Pick a classic and women will be swooning at your sensitive nature, choose a thriller to suggest dynamism.'
More than half of men and women say books can inspire a chat-up line. Daily Record |

| Keeper of Mr Tennant's specs Yeah i guess. but it is still the most popular things that they go for isnt it.
i mean they assume that Harry Potter and LOTR are for children when they are not on fact JKR has said that she wrote that harry potter books as something she would like to read and JRRTolkin didnt set out to write LOTR trilogy for children did he?

the whole reason JKR was not putting Joanne on the books was so boys wouldnt get turned off by it, thinking it was a girlie book,
but this is a load of rubbish, i would be well happy if i met a bloke on holiday reading a HP book, he would be a man after my own heart, and so much to talk about,
I bet the survey was done on Women that didnt read harry potter, and so much for the BBC2 woman saying you would be partically poor if you read it. well im sure that JKR thanks all the poor people that do read her books, because she used to be poor too!!
i reckon this survey should be filed under B for Bin!!!!!!

| I could understand being concerned if they're into erotica or porn and the like, that I wouldn't like myself ... but I think it's great just knowing a guy is 'reading'... and not just planting themselves in front of the 'tube' 24/7.
As far as sports... most guys are into that!
Also, being an avid reader myself.. I can't say I've ever read anything by Nick Hornby, Ian McEwan or F Scott Fitzgerald, unless I was assigned to read them for class/school.

::shakes head back and forth quickly:: As long as my man doesn't wear a lightning bolt scar painted on his forehead when he leaves for work, he can read and do whatever he wants. I'd be happy if he were a Potter Fan!
How great would a date be if you could talk about HP the whole time... the conversations would be fun.
Date: So... what are you like?
Girl: Um... I think I have the personality of Hermione.
Date: Oh, that's cool - I'm a Krum. We're compatiable.

They aren't talking about "guys" or boys, though. They are talking about grown men. Think older. They're talking about men in their mid-to-late twenties and older. Being of that age, I understand. I want to see a wide variety of reading material on his shelves.

Just because he reads Harry Potter he doesn't have a variety? The article never said that they just read strictly HP, it just said that women are turned off by fans of the book. Even in older men, I think it's fine. Read whatever you want, it shows you have guts and don't care what others think.

Oh look another article telling people how to be shallow! Read what you want and if a person says they are not compatable with you based solely on what you read they are right. They don't deserve the time of day from you because you chose to read what you find interesting and not what some stupid article says will help you score.

I think it may be true to an extent, but since I read it as well, it's not for me. But I see where they could be getting their "facts" from . . .

Thats a load of crap. Girsl I know love Harry Potter and would love nothing more than to havea boyfriend that share the same interest as them. I mean, If I had a boyfriend that liked Harry Potter, I would be chuffed to have something to talk about with them. I dont see how all women can be judged by what a few other Females say.

personally, I don't have any problems with girls liking me cause I like HP and if that's their reason for not liking you, I think it's a little superfical.
