Found this on Wizard City:
A 4-year-old girl in North Carolina reportedly injured herself trying to fly on a broom like Harry Potter. A 4-year-old girl was critically injured after she apparently tried to fly after watching "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" movie, according to a Local 6 News report.
Authorities in Shelby, N.C., said that the girl watched the movie and then crawled onto a kitchen counter, straddled a broom and then jumped off.
This is yet another case in a few where people haven't thought about their own safety, but of course a young girl cannot be blamed for her actions. The last case of this was when a women blew up her kitchen trying to make a potion. Is it getting to a point where they'll have to label Harry Potter with a "Don't try this at home" note? |

True. Woman, funny. Girl, sad. True too, it's the parents' fault. And, I wouldn't be surprised if they sued HP. Some people...well, I'll use an example. I heard from my cousin...she heard on the news about a 13...13-year-old boy killed himself because this pirate in Pirates in the Carribean killed himself. (I don't know who was it, because I haven't seen the movie yet! ) Anyhow, his parents' are suing the makers of the Pirates...which is...absurd, cuz the boy should know better than that.
So...it's not really the girl's fault---I mean, she's four, and she has to learn lots, from her parents.

I guess 'broomsticks' must be added to the list of dangerous things not to be touched by four year olds. Poor thing.
I remember two year ago a group of school children somewhere tried to concoct a potion and ended up in the hospital after drinking it.

My friend tried to play a 'criminal' game when she was like 3 or 4...she tied herself up, jumped off the table, and landed on her face! Now she has to get braces. I think she got it off of a movie or something-but that's what little kids do! They get stuff off from movies and imitate them-my little brother used to pretend to be Batman, and ran around the house with a towel around his neck when he was little- I used to pretend to be a lion cub from The Lion King movie, and ran around the house acting like a big cat...little kids like to pretend-sometimes older people, like I like to pretend I'm a wizard sometimes, wearing a cape.....and sometimes adults like to get out of hand and blow up their kitchen by trying to make a potion..... :sorcerer:

Honestly, you people make me sick. If somebody can at least speak comprehendably, they should know that jumping from a dangerous height on a broom and flying is impossible. so FACE THE FACTS< KID!!!!!!! She obviously didn't consider what would happen if she fell off the broom(snicker) which happened immediately. So, if you ask me, yes, she should have been supervised, but it's her own darn fault[QUOTE]ahahahahahah-that's pretty funny, man. I agree with you

[QUOTE]"BAN HARRY POTTER NOW" How can we let this kind of thing to happen. It's totally disgusting that they haven't banned thesebooks and films yet. BAN THEM i say BAN THEM.
If you ask me, you are disgusting, you weirdo. Why are you even on this site if you hate HP so much. You see, it's a site for people who LIKE HP, it's not that hard. And no one's going to ban them. If they do, the whole world will react, not to menton that J.K.R. will sue them, so why not move to a site for HP haters????

Lol, I AGREE. Parents should be watching their kids-4 year olds wouldn't be able to read, DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME, I mean, come on! If they actually think they can fly, then how are thet expected to read? I think if parents go to take their child to see a movie with fiction in it, then they should get it clear with them that people cannot do those things. I'm not against the little girl, but why would she think that people can fly? I mean, if people could fly, then people would be riding on broomsticks instead of bikes...but she was only four, and 4 year olds don't think that way.....yeah, about you HP haters! Go to a more fitting website for literature haters than this Harry Potter FAN site! | |

^ plese tell me that was a joke.
lol
that's just stupid. the girl's parents should have been watghing her, and there's no way the lady should have been stupid enough to try that.
anyway, they can't ban HP in the US of A we have freedom!!!!! yea freedom!!!!! lol so jk could always finish her books over here if she had too... not that she should have too... actually, i've heard a couple of times JK doesn't really care for Americans.... any1 know if that's true???

I heard that when Peter Pan first came out there was no mention of pixy dust. Pan just told Wendy, “All you have to do is believe.” Sure enough kids were jumping off the roof.

Just about every time a new action hero type of movie comes out, there is someone somewhere that will try some silly and stupid things to copy them. Back when Superman first came out, there were kids that tied on "capes" and, where most just ran around on the ground pretending to fly, there were those that tried to fly by jumping off the roof and getting hurt. They sure didn't blame the show for those incidents. It can be tragic, such as with that little girl. She didn't know any better, but that adult? And where she was concerned, was her experiment due to a Harry Potter potion idea, or someone just into wicca or something? Either way, you can't blame a movie or a television show. Parents need to let their little ones know the difference between fiction and real life as soon as they start watching cartoons on TV, etc.

haixx.. they cant blame the girl for her curiosity.. the parents shuld have kept an eye!! or four eyes on her for that matter!! the potions thing sound a bit stupid tho [no offense to whomever whove tried it] but i guess. one day the "dont try this at home" thing WILL be labelled on HP CDs/DVDs..

well, that sounds funny actually. but the woman, she should've known better. it is technically the parent's fault, but jeeze, that's kinda funny, both of them are.

That's where the explination between fantasy and reality need to be explained to the little girl. Poor darling- @ four I would have probably done the same thing. Anything for some magical powers!
