In the Sunday edition of the UK's The Sun, actress Geraldine Somerville (Lily Potter in the Harry Potter films), speaks about her new acting project, ITV1's drama The Children, and about how she reacted to getting the role of Harry Potter's mother in the films. Quote:
It was in 2001’s Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone that she first appeared as the boy wizard’s mother Lily Potter.
But Geraldine admits the role isn’t as exciting as it seems, because Lily appears to Harry only occasionally from beyond the grave.
She added: “I kind of found it quite frustrating. When I first got the part I was really excited, thinking ‘Yessss, Harry Potter’s mum, this is going to be great’ and then I read the books . . . ‘Oh, OK, so she’s dead’."

"It's hard because she's talked about the whole time. It's 'Lily this, Lily that', so I have to kind of be aware of that and what everyone's saying about her, but at the same time, you're kind of just being a thing," she continues.
"She's 'love' really, I mean that's what the whole thing is, he's saved by her love, so she is love and I suppose she's a symbolic figure. It's kind of hard playing a symbol," she laughs, "but interesting. It's been fun."
