A few days ago we told you about a French teenager who had been arrested after he translated, and posted a copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows on the internet. Now, it appears that he will not be sued. This decision has been made by JK Rowling and the publisher of the French version. Quote:
The unnamed teenager, from the southern city of Aix en Provence, had told police after being arrested and briefly detained a week ago that he had not sought to make money off his unauthorised translation.

A spokeswoman for Gallimard said Saturday the publisher had lodged a police complaint to allow for the investigation but emphasised "the aim was never financial; it is only aimed to protect authors' rights".

Has the french version been released yet?
If not then he is it really that horrbile? He could have just wanted to share the harry potter books with his people.
Also, whats thedifference between reading a free version online and getting it at the library for free?

Even though he's not being sued, it was wrong. He shouldn't have posted an unauthorized version of DH, but I think he had good intentions...maybe he just wanted France's fans not to have to wait for the translation... He shouldn't have done it, and he should have known better... Maybe he should be sued. Jo is very generous though, by not sueing... | |

I think it's nice that he wasn't sued because he wasn't trying to make money. Imagine if you were french and had to wait until october? I wouldn't be able to wait that long. It's sweet of JK Rowling and the publisher to not sue. Maybe the French translators should give him a job?!
