| | | Franz Ferdinand were never in GoF
We earlier reported that Franz Ferdinand had pulled out of participating in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire as the 'Weird Sisters'. Now it appears that they never actually signed up to be in the film at all but were in discussions with WB which had to stop due to a number of a reasons including busy schedules and tensions within the group. Scotland on Sunday has more reasons as to why the band declined the offer. Quote:
This week, however, a spokesman from the band's PR company confirmed that "scheduling difficulties" had resulted in the Glasgow group breaking off discussions with Warner Brothers.
The spokesman said Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, which began shooting in March, clashed with the band's demanding tour schedule, including concerts across America and Japan.
And he played down suggestions that the band had effectively been "signed up" for an appearance. "There was talk about them appearing in the film and we had spoken to the Harry Potter people about it," he said. "But they wanted to do the filming before Christmas. Despite what was said in the press they were never really in it."
It also confirms earlier reports as to who will be taking their place, in the film. Quote:
Franz Ferdinand's place in the movie will be filled by Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood and former Pulp singer Jarvis Cocker.
Somerville added: "They are probably better with an anonymous guitarist, albeit one from a hugely famous band, and Jarvis Cocker, since he looks like he could teach at Hogwarts."
Quote:
But music critic Colin Somerville said it was a wise move for Franz Ferdinand to pull out of the film, and that scheduling was a "standard" excuse.
He said: "They would have run the risk of being caricatured. If you are going to do a film - Harry Potter in particular - then you are likely to be caricatured, and their control as to how they come over would have been fairly well diminished.
"As quirky as Franz Ferdinand like to be, I can understand the commercial decision not to do it, and if scheduling is served up then that is a pretty standard excuse. I don’t think that they need it, and in some sense Harry Potter doesn’t need them either."

| why? it's really a pity. but well, the pitiest is that nobody can call them the weird sisters now and I've never heared of Jarvis Corker or John Greenwood! only Franz Ferdinand would've been a good reason to go to GOF! Not that i'm a huge fan, but I like their music...

My sister's friend saw Franz Ferdinand live and spoke to them after and said "You're going to be in Harry Potter, thats so cool" and they said back "We know."
It's a shame they won't be in!
I'm onboard with the Snow Patrol plan!

But good to know...interesting *Hugs* They are a band... and would have been really cool as the Weird Sisters... but don't matter.
Snow patrol would be cool - they were brilliant live at Brixton.
Tbh I'm not too bothered really.
*Sniv I love your sig! Which is probably really old but I'm unobservant.*

Well the band will be unrecognisable under the make-up and costumes most likely, anyways.
And as far as it goes, i think they're chosen for sure and most of the Yule Ball has already been shot so...no Snow Patrol.
The Corrs would've been cool too.

Ah. I am still very dissapointed that I wont get to see Alex Kapranos in a long wig with fake nails. In fact, all of them would have looked very amusing in weird sisters gear.

That's a bit disappointing, they would have been really great, but I'm glad some talent from Radiohead and Jarvis Cocker will be filling in. I'm so relieved The Darkness wasnt picked-eek!
Snow Patrol would have been good or Dogs Die in Hot Cars.
