| | | 'Floo Powder' Scare Shuts Down Post Office - Harry Potter's birthday is July 31! Summary:
Its a mystery to muggles.. "It's not every day you get a letter with white powder all over it," police Chief Charles Loring said. Article:
A birthday card to a fictional character shut down a Missouri post office for two hours on Wednesday, KMBC-TV in Kansas City reported.
The letter turned out to be a birthday card a 16-year-old fan was sending to Harry Potter in England. The teen apparently sprinkled the card with some "floo powder," which turned out to be harmless talcum powder. In the books by JK Rowling, floo powder helps wizards travel.
Cheers!
-Jessie

It is a funny article but I am sure the post workers weren't laughing in the beginning. Put yourself in their shoes and the white "floo power" gets a very different reaction. I would be scared and I don't think Dan or his letter people would be laughing either to receive unknown white power. Besides isn't "floo powder" grey or black?

Personally I don't find it amusing at all. If that were you, you would have been freaking out just like the postal workers. This is a serious matter. You can't treat it as just another thing that happens. Just think what if it wasn't a Harry Potter fan but some terrorists. I don't know its just not an issue to play around with thats all.

I think it's amusing, afterwards, not during. Peoples minds can do funny things when they suspect something. Here in Chicago, a street was shut down for 3 hours, Hazmant, firemen, policemen and paramedics were there because somebody reported Anthrax. It turned out to be Guacamole It makes you wonder, about the letter, is there really a #3 Privet Drive? |

If this was from a little kid, it wouldn't be so bad. But sixteen? That's ridiculous. How dumb is that guy?

Sounds like a small-town girl (Buckner, MO, pop. 2700) sending a fan card, probably to Dan, whose birthday is the 23rd. But the talcum powder? At 16, she doesn't know the postal service is nervous about anthrax? Whew... | |

"Missouri post", yeah right, as if anything ever going to happen in Missouri anyway. As for the incident, It's really funny, but I still don't see why he would put "floo Power" in, I mean, it doesn't help the letter to travel (not even in Harry Potter books. A little stupid for a 16 years old don't you think?

Thats way funny but i think the kid should have known better then to use white powder. People get all freaked out with white powders. They should have used glitter dust or somthing. what color is floo powder anyway?

I live in Buckner, MO and I didn't hear about it til that nite. I didn't know anything about it at all. I know that alot of people here have been cracking jokes and stuff about it. I feel bad for the girl because she is getting made fun of. Even if she is old enough to realize it was a mistake. I am sure it was scary for the people who got the letter and didn't know what it was at the time.
