| | | First Review of Half-Blood Prince (spoiler-free!)
Without a lengthy introduction, here is her spoiler-free review: Quote:
After getting my book, quite eventful that was, I quickly got home and read it. Here's my review. I probably could've written more, but it's freezing over here and my hands are like, frozen, and it's really hard to not reveal the plot or anything about it.
- Christina (Kurisuchiina)
Before getting Half-Blood Prince, I had not been subjected to any spoilers. All I knew was that somebody was going to die, as it's somewhat common in the Harry Potter books, and that the Half-Blood Prince was not Harry or Voldemort. By the first couple of chapters, my jaw was dropping. It was quite dark, and for me it was shocking. My jaw dropped lots of times during this part, and there were plenty exclamations of "NO WAY!" and "OMG!" coming from my bedroom, which in turn got my mother running in being all like "What happened?!". As I previously said, it was quite dark, the death rate for this one is much higher than with the other books. However these deaths are only lightly mentioned, and it adds to the dark and foreboding mood of the book, but it's well used. Witches and wizards seem terrified that something bad will happen to them, some even disappearing without any reason or mention.
For those wondering, yes, there is a bit more romance in Half-Blood Prince. I saw the word 'snogging' come up often. I'm not going to specify which ships, you can the book and find out. I liked how Half-Blood Prince has some ties with Chamber Of Secrets, specifically speaking, Tom Riddle's diary. It's interesting how JK Rowling figured out how to tie it in, and well, it's exactly what someone would to in extreme lengths to achieve immortality. When I got about half-way, there is lead as to who exactly the Half-Blood Prince. At this stage, I personally felt a little let down as the person who they assume may be the Half-Blood Prince, is someone who isn't even a character. This feeling soon disappeared when I began to reach the ending.
I quite liked Half-Blood Prince, in my opinion is somewhat kind of a prequel as well for a particular character. We discover the history about this certain character, and I personally found it very interesting. I won't reveal who this character is, you're just going to have to read the book!
In Order Of The Phoenix, Harry was incredibly angsty and just generally snappy, it was like he had a male form of PMS constantly. I understand that his 5th year may not have been the best, but at times it made me want to put my book down, not read it, and strangle him. It was a bit over the top personally. Fortunately, Harry seems to have calmed down in Half-Blood Prince, and he isn't so snappy and angsty. It's like JK Rowling decided to give him tranquilizers and sedatives or something.
But that was good, never once during Half-Blood Prince did I want to put the book down. I found that Order Of The Phoenix was a little long-winded, not a book I'd want to read in one sitting if I felt like it and had the time. Half-Blood Prince, although shorter than Order Of The Phoenix, in my opinion, was much better. There are probably some who would disagree with me, but each has their own opinion. Order Of The Phoenix did make me cry, but not as much as Half-Blood Prince did. I've never cried about a book or anything happening in a book prior to Order Of The Phoenix and Half-Blood Prince. I'm not going into too much depth as to why I was crying, but as we all know, a character dies. It's who dies and who kills them that is completely shocking!
I'd write more, but I'm afraid if I continue writing I'll end up writing spoilers! Half-Blood Prince was a great book, it's by far my favourite in the series so far. It was definitely worth the wait. Now I can't wait until the 7th book comes out!
| Thanks Chris!
Your Tee-shirt is in the mail!!
There are four more excellent (and slightly more detailed) reviews, here. Note that there aren't any major spoilers, but a few minor plot details are mentioned.

I'm with you, i was crying my eyes out. I felt so numb when everything "revealed" itself. It turned out the way i wanted it to, romantically, but i still can't believe what happened in the last hundred pages! WHY? |

| Brilliant review.
You did a great job without giving away spoilers!!!!
The people who finished it (like me!) knew exactly who you were talking about and had no confusions with it!
You deserve that tee-shirt! |

| I'm going to try my very hardest not to spoil anything.
Firstly, however sad the death is, I can see that it is necessary.
Out of the two people involved in the murder, one was not surprising at all, considering I always knew they were going to end up on the wrong side. But the other...oh man were we ever so wrong about evil-magician (his new name)! They were built up as one thing for five books, and then they end up....wow, evil.
One of my favorite parts of the entire book was near the end when well...I'm happy for Lupin, it was long overdue. I couldn't stop gaping, as it was so shocking.
I didn't even think anything of Tonks and her odd behavior because I was too busy paying attention to the bigger plot of the book...but I love it...sigh.
I'm so excited for the next book because it's definitely going to be way more...I don't know, adventurous and serious, and I'm glad that he'll have company. I liked the end when they said they would help him. Which was a big deal when you think about it especially considering who one of those people is and that they always preach about...things...man, this is hard without giving anything away!
Oi...I absolutely loved the book, I know it's cliche to say that the new one is your favorite but it definitely is mine. It was so much darker and if there was any doubt that these books were appropriate for people over ten (stupid best week ever...well, I still like ya...but still) there isn't anymore.
...Won Won...ugh... |

| She must've described her attitude over the various parts of the book very accurately coz thats exactly what happened with me and my brother. We were both depressed and shocked by the time we finished the HBP..........though I dont like the romance parts .............arghhhhhhhhh

| | | okay, no spoils, promise. I waited for a week after the book came out to finally get my copy in the mail (it didn't stop me from reading a little bit when I went to the bookstore, though). This is either my favorite or 2nd favorite in the series, it's hard for me to decide - so many emotions when I went through reading it. Harry has definitely grown so much and you can definitely see it in this book. You won't be disappointed.
now the long wait for book seven begins....

| Gd review!!! The day I got my Harry Potter book, my mum volunteered to stand outside the shop at midnight to collect a first edition one. I was in bed because I had a big gymnastic competition the next day!!! On the day of the competition, I was late walking onto the floor for my orientation because I was sat so compelled to the book!!!! ha ha

| | | Do you think it is possible for Ginny to do the same for Harry as Harry's mom did for him?
I mean it would be logical if she truley loves him to say that she would be willing to die for him.
I have more theories but maybe some other time.
