| | |  Fiona Shaw speaks at Princeton University
Irish actress Fiona Shaw, who plays Aunt Petunia in the Harry Potter series, spoke yesterday to theatre students at Princeton University in the Berlind Theatre on 'Shakespeare and Friends, Ibsen and Enemies'.
An acclaimed British actress on the London stage, film, and television, Shaw is characterized as "one of the finest classical actresses of her generation." Quote:
Shaw was awarded an honorary Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2001. Trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, she has received much acclaim for her role as Julia in the National Theatre production of Richard Sheridan's "The Rivals" (1983). Among Shaw's most notable roles are Celia in "As You Like It" (1984), Madame de Volanges in "Les Liaisons Dangereuses" (1985), Katherine in "The Taming of the Shrew" (1987), Winnie in "Happy Days" (2007), and the title roles in "Electra" (1988), "The Good Person of Sechuan" (1989), "Hedda Gabler" (1991), "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie" (1998) and "Medea" (2000). She performed T.S. Eliot's poem "The Waste Land" as a one-person show at the Liberty Theater in New York (1996) and played the lead in "Richard II" (1995) directed by Deborah Warner.
The event was sponsored by Lewis Center of the Arts.
In addition, Shaw is also being honored at the third annual Oscar Wilde: Honoring the Irish in Film ceremony in Hollywood on Feb. 21, along with fellow honorees producer James L. Brooks and actress Fionnula Flanagan.  | |

I think it's so interesting that actors or actresses in Britain are made officers of the British empire. It's like making American entertainers senators!
