'Fantastic Beasts' sequel to begin filming this July, will be 'like a dream', darker

David Yates, who has been a fountain of information during the press rounds of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, revealed that the sequel will begin filming this coming July. The director also noted that J.K. Rowling's script for the second installment is very different from the first, and more 'like a dream', but quite dark. That can be watched at the very end of the interview below.

ScreenSlam: Do you plan on doing the other ones?
David Yates:
Well, I’m making the next one now, so we’re in preproduction. We start shooting in July. That’s going to take me a couple of years – we’ll be back here in two years’ time presenting it. I want to carry on working on them in some shape or form because I love the people I’m working with. It’s inspiring and exciting to be working with these people.

Will I direct more of them? I think I may. I don’t know yet. There such big endeavors, one can only look at one at a time, really. That’s what you have to do. I’m excited about the next one. It’s very different to the first one. The next one is like a dream. It’s quite dark and interesting and lyrical, and very different to the first one. It’s a testament to Jo as a writer that she’s not repeating herself. She’s stretching for something that feels much more unusual, actually. So for me, as a filmmaker, that’s exciting.

Of course it’s got the narrative continuity, so Newt and all the characters come back and they go through an adventure of sorts, but it just feels very different. And that’s what excites me. I suspect Jo will, as she develops these stories, she doesn’t want to repeat herself either, so they’ll all feel a little different as we move along. I hope so anyway.
Eddie Redmayne recently admitted that he has not read the script for the sequel, and does not expect to do so in some time.

Quote:

Have you read the second script?
Redmayne:
No. The impression I get is I won’t for a while.
The second movie, "Fantastic Beasts and ... _______", will bring back series regulars Redmayne, Dan Fogler, Ezra Miller (who confessed with Fogler that Credence will have a much different hairstyle in the sequel), Katherine Waterston, Alison Sudol, Johnny Depp, and Zoe Kravitz. Set production will begin this February, said Yates, and the movie will take place in spring/summer 1928 Paris.

Redmayne joined several British (and American celebrities) for this year's BBC's Children in Need charity skit, dressed head to toe as Newt Scamander on the Fantastic Beasts' The Blind Pig set and trying with all his might to find Pudsey the bear. That fun clip can be watched below.

Oh my God, I'm dying!!! lol
Well, my heart stopped for a while when Newt Scamander started to talk with the Doctor, to be honest... *_*

Wow that sounds awesome. My Gothic sensibilities tingled at the phrases "like a dream" and "lyrical." :xd: Am planning to see the first Newt tomorrow!
