Exclusive: SnitchSeeker attends US Inkheart premiere
Last night I had the privilege of attending the US premiere of Inkheart, starring Brendan Fraser, Paul Bettany, Jim Broadbent, Helen Mirren, Andy Serkis, and Eliza Bennett. I was able to speak with author Cornelia Funke, director Iain Softley, and stars Eliza Bennett and Andy Serkis on the red carpet.
The actors spoke about their involvement in the production, including what drew them to taking their roles in Inkheart, and how the success of the Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings franchises has paved the way for contemporary fantasy films in the US market and international scale. Director Iain Softley specifically noted that he had Jim Broadbent (Professor Slughorn in Half-Blood Prince) in mind when casting for the film to play Fenoglio author of Inkheart in the tale, and what it was like working with the renowned actor. Author Cornelia Funke spoke about how the Harry Potter series has opened up the opportunity for her books to be brought to life, crediting Jo Rowling's vastly successful adaptations.
Andy Serkis briefly discussed his next project, playing Captain Haddock in Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson's adaptations of the Tintin comics. He noted that the character Tintin has been cast, though could not say who will play him at the present time; and that he would begin production in two weeks.
Inkheart was released in the UK back in December; it will hit theatres in the US January 23, 2009.
I think it's lovely that because of the success of the HP films, other books are being created into movies. There are plenty of books that, for some reason, I can't read (usually has to do with the author's style of writing), but the story is good.
Faves thus far:
LotR
HP
Twilight
The Seeker (TV series (or Miniseries)) based off The Seeker of Truth novels.
Eragon
yeah....
Bring on Inkheart, and Bring on The Wheel of Time series (probably TV, however). My b/f and I can't wait to see Inkheart :-)
