Irish Central has a new interview with Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood) during which she talks about Half-Blood Prince, mentioning that her promotional work will take her to Denmark and Poland, in addition to her already announced appearances. She mentions how excited she is, particularly since she'll be travelling with Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley) and Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom).

Evanna goes on to talk about school, her regular life in Ireland and how she copes on set;

Quote:

“We have school tutors on the set and we have to do three hours a day minimum with them. Everyone in my school thinks that makes me lucky but it’s not true at all,” she says.

“It’s one to one tutoring, so it’s quite intense, and they really make sure we get our tutoring in. It’s kind of hard to combine the tutoring with the film work. It’s hard to focus on both sometimes.”

She then talks about how her character, Luna Lovegood, is portrayed in the sixth film;

“Luna doesn’t change but her position changes in this new film. Most people are aware of her reputation for being crazy. She’s certainly picked on by the other students,” Lynch says.

“As in any school people are reluctant to be close to that kind of person. Or to be seen to be close to her. But Harry is a lot more comfortable with himself in this film. He’s not as conscious of what people think of him or he just doesn’t care now.

“He accepts Luna and he calls her a friend and she’s thrilled. She helps Harry to see sense when he gets caught up in his struggles. She reminds him who he is.”

Quote:

“Luna seems small and young and not noted for being brave, and yet she is. She’s really calm though, she doesn’t get surprised by anything, and she accepts people’s differences,” Lynch says.

“In fact J.K. Rowling told me as a character she’s the most adjusted to the idea of death in the whole series. That cuts out a lot of fear for her. She tries to impress it on Harry. She’ll take it as it comes.”

Evanna adds that she wishes to continue acting and is particularly fascinated by theatre and the West End, in London, England. She also says that although she loves her home country, she wishes to move to London when she's older, for the freedom and the friends she has there.

Evanna also talks about Luna's character within the series as a whole and how being cast in the Harry Potter films has changed her life;

“I think Luna is very sure of herself and comfortable with who she is, whereas I am more like most people in that I can get preoccupied with what people think of me. I worry about that when really it doesn’t matter because that’s just someone else’s perception, you know? Luna inspires me to not let it affect me as much,” Lynch says.

“The best part of this experience has been meeting the people who were idols. That has been great because they are amazing people and they do achieve so much though working so hard. But they’re so normal as well and they don’t have airs and you see all sides of them.

“I used to be afraid to appear on the film set because I felt I was not ready and what would I do, you know? But I learned that they don’t expect you to be perfect, and that was a great thing to learn. Just to be a part of the film is thrilling, because I’ve always been a huge fan of the books, and now I can say I did my part for it.”

Finally Evanna talks about shipping within fandom and mentions a particular pairing which she has admitted to liking before;

“Maybe I shouldn’t say this, because it might get me in trouble. But there’s this big thing among people who are fans of the books. It’s a thing they do as fans called ‘shipping,’ which is short for relationship.

“The fans create ideal pair ups based on the books. There are some really crazy ones. I don’t know if I should say.

“But some people think Luna and Professor Dumbledore would make a great pair in another universe. I mean obviously he’s far too old for her, but their personalities completely match. They’re calm and accepting and quirky and I think they’re both really creative. I’d say they’d be fun together.”

evanna seems to really understand luna
how luna's adjusted to death and that cuts a lot of fear out of her
with dumbledore
i agree if he wasn't dead, old, and gay, yes

wow denmark and poland...go evanna go...meeting people gives really the right kind of exposure to any person...good she is so involved in her work and trying to balance out her studies as well...these HP kids simply are great...and Luna and dumbledore...well never heard about that shipping but...they would have sort off got along well if not hit it off...because of their so called eccentric and quirky nature...

Ooh I really hope she does get to do something in the West End eventually in her career, she's got that dramatic face that stands out.

Her being the calm, quirky one is what attracted me to the character and I'm so happy that Evanna tries really hard to make that come alive on screen.

I love Evanna and Bonnie and Emma and...oh,i just like everyone from the HP series

Because of them I`ve even got more depth into this studying thingy and they r just so inspiring and...well,it`s hard to explain

Luna & Dumbledore is not one I've heard before!
Mind you they do have similar personalities so,as she says,in a very different universe it might have worked.You know one where he's not as old,or gay....or dead even.

Great interview...the shipping comment was funny. Personally, i think it is, um, unusual to pair of fictional characters, especially when a book series is complete. I mean, what is the point?

Great Overall Interview!! She is the PERFECT Luna!! I agree that Dumbledore and Luna would be an interesting match!!

and for the What's the point comment.... you could say the same about all the fanfic out there.... it is fun and a way to continue something many love so dearly!!

she's a perfect Luna!
first, i love emma, and then bonnie, and now i love evanna, t0o! i love all those in the films anyway.. lol..
and yea, i only realized when i read this, Luna/dumbLedore really have those similarities.. but don't they say opposites attract? and i think they'll repel.. lol
