Eragon: A Match for HP? Article:
Thanks to TLC
Eragon scribe Christopher Paolini, asked by US News & World Report how his title character would fare in a duel against Harry, said Eragon would win because "he's got a dragon on his side."
The article says Eragon, an impressive first effort from Paolini, who wrote it when he was 15, just took Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix's top-spot on the NYTimes hardcover children's bestseller list. This would be a more impressive feat had OotP not been out for seven months. Would a dragon be enough for Eragon if he and Harry shared release dates? Probably not. |

Exactly. Everyone's already GOT a copy or two or OotP. Personally I've never heard of Eragon.

I've read the first of his books, they're great! But deffinitly no JK. Eragon might have a chance but Harry's got his Firebolt....remember the task in the Triwizard Tournement(sp?)?? :sorcerer:

| | Guest | Eragon was an okay book. Not the best thing ever written, but an enjoyable read. Do I like it will ever become the phenomenon Harry Potter is? Unlikely, unless the press hypes it up unbelievably. Harry had more of a cult following until the movies came out.

I don't think they should compare every new book to Harry Potter; I mean everyone knows HP is unbeatable

| | Guest | Eragon is a wonderful book, and extremely good. However, it is completely different than Harry Potter. The only thing they have in common is magic. There is such a big difference that it's hard to compare them, but I like both.
also, it's stupid to say which book is better, especially if you have never read Eragon.

I think that it's amazing that this guy started it when he was 15. He also graduated from High School at the age of 15. i'm 15 now and all i have are scattered beginings of stories.

I've never heard of Eragon, but even if it's a a great book I'd have to agree with this: Quote: Would a dragon be enough for Eragon if he and Harry shared release dates? Probably not. It may be a great book, but Harry Potter was already very popular and people had been anticipating OotP for a while.
It doesn't have to do with which book is better or not, it simply has to do with how well-known the books are and popularity.

| | Guest | Eragon is a much newer book, so when the sequel, Eldest, comes out, it could be "long awaited" just like HP. by chance, the next HP book and Eldest may come out around the same time, but why does it matter? HP has had more time to get popular, but does it really matter which book sells better? what matters more in a good book- the popularity of it, or the content?
Expelliarmus- it is a really good book, and only released last year

personally i think Eragon would be a good book. Whether or not it has any similarities to HP, that has similarities to other books too.

I bought the book Eragon about a month ago. I am barley on the 5th chapter because it is too difficult for me to understand. The words the author chooses are too hard for my mind to comprehend. (mind you all that I am in my twenties and probably the only one out there that doesn't understand ) So i am not liking it too much. Maybe Eragon is getting more sales because Harry Potter got kids (and adults) reading again and we are all off keeping ourselves entertained while we wait for the next installment of Harry Potter. We all have to keep our minds away from the anxiety of awaitng book 6!!! And because Eragon is on the lines of Magic and dragons it kinda appeals to the kind of stories Harry Potter fans might be interested to read. Regardless, both series seem to be favorites for children and their content shouldn't be compared by book sales .
