Default Entertainment Weekly review the PoA DVD

HPANA has three scans from the Entertainment Weekly review of the Prisoner of Azkaban DVD which is out now in the UK, Tuesday in the US.

Scans of a double page advert can be seen here as well as the scan of the review itself.

Quote:
The third Potter film cuts out way too much of J.K.Rowling's 435-page opus.
Quote:
Fans of cinematic craft and good old entertainment, on the other hand, will recognise Azkaban for what it is: better.
Quote:
Director Alfonso Cuaron brings actual artistic inspiration to the proceedings, replacing Chris Columbus' dutiful Xeroxes with invention and mischief.
Quote:
...the computer generated wolf that resembles a Chihuahua on steroids.
Quote:
He tried creating the Dementors with maverick puppeteer Basil Twist before giving up and going CGI.
Quote:
It lacks a director's commentary (a shame given what a chatty delight Cuaron can be) and dumps a hodgepodge of extras on the second platter.
Quote:
Fatuous cast interviews with British "personality" Johnny Vaughan are for the bedroom-poster crowd only, and the tours, games, deleted scenes and quizzes are for rainy days only.

The real magic, in case you haven't noticed, is on disc 1.

Yeah -- the werewolf, the dementors and the shrunken heads -- I didnt like them.. I mean the CGI was not impressive at all.

The dementors were too thin and didnt look very scary -- but I guess that's intentional coz the production is constrained to make them not too scary in order to pass the PG 13 rating.

And the shrunken heads were just simply ANNOYING! I didnt find them funny at all..

I liked the Dementors. The werewolf was scary but needed more hair. The talking head was just plain weird and I think for the younger fans. Overall PoA was GREAT!!! I LOVED IT. Can't wait 'til Tuesday.
