Post Empire reviews 'Goblet of Fire' DVD

Empire has reviewed the 'Goblet of Fire' DVD to coincide with the release of the film in the UK. The DVD is awarded 3 stars out 5. The entire piece can be read here.

Quote:
This is certainly not a movie for young children, however engaging its characters and comic touches. Teen angst and relationship problems are pretty boring if you’re six. But it’s not the burgeoning sexuality that’s landed the picture its 12A certificate, rather its genuinely darker vein of fantasy horror.
Quote:
While he [Steve Kloves] was at it, it’s a pity he didn’t also delete tabloid hackette Rita Skeeter — however much one likes Miranda Richardson — since she obviously functions as author J. K. Rowling’s dig at celebrity-stalking gossips, adding nothing more than running-time the story doesn’t need.
Quote:
It looks as if several scenes were filmed at greater length, surviving in quick snippets that are frequently unnecessary.
Quote:
It’s refreshing that Potter 4 aspires to be a paranoid thriller rather than yet another detective mystery. House points, too, for the movie's terrific effects and considerable charm, but, once again, you can’t help wishing the filmmakers had been bolder with the adaptation.

Only 3 out of 5? Gee! Who are these people? *crosses arms*
Oh well, I guess they have the right to have their own opinion *sighes*
I can't wait to get the DVD! Only 8 more days to wait!

i liked the movie... but i really wish some of the things hadn't been cut out and instead have unnecessary scences like the one of harry and the dragon and how it escapes... i mean they could have used that extra like what? 10 minutes to film something like the scences with the quidditch world cup! or sirius..

Well I have to agree on some of these tips. If your going to delete some of the Reeta Skeeter stuff you need to delete it all. The was really no point in her being in the film. And the quidditch world cup was the part I was looking most forward too and it really let me down. Cut Reeta and Add more quidditch world cup. That would have been my tip! Either way its still a 6 out of 5 in my book!

Is Empire reviewing the movie or the DVD? Because reviews for the movie are kinda old now and giving the DVD 3 out of 5 stars because of your take on the plot seems a bit weird... you're suppose to look at what the DVD offers, not what the movie is about. lol

Though I do agree with their Rita Skeeter thing. While I loved her in the book (well, loved to hate her) and she obviously serves a great purpose, since she's been cut from the 5th film, why did they keep her in the 4th? It does seem like a waste of perfectly good time on the film for a minor character.

Yeah I kind of agree with the reviews. They should have went into more detail also I mean they skipped or cut a lot of good parts. It was a good film and all, but it could have been a lot better I believe.

I agree with Rita, especially since she isn't being used in OotP. But I would've gone a step further and taken out all the Quidditch entirely. And maybe had Krum bumping into the trio in the campsite instead.

Perhaps the reviewer is a disgruntled book fan.

3 out of 5? What do they matter anyway? Its more or less what the fans think about the DVD. I for one enjoyed watching it so much, that I've lost count....I guess you need to be a die hard HP fan to understand the quality of the film.

Although I disagree about the Krum thing... it was necessary to make Ron's jealousy even better going from absolutely adoring Krum to hating him. I think if they want to be disgruntled, they should've gone after the over-done dragon chase scene! That could've been more impressive had they shown us all the champions fighting a dragon instead of just sensationalizing Harry's dragon task.

haha have the same thing in mind haha anyways i just have to let this out "why the heck they made king kong a three hour movie and harry potter a 2hr movie???! it would be so worthed if they made Harrypotter longer than that! atleast they could have added in the qudditch game!!" *fuh!* haha so want to say that since king kong came out (and i regret to say: my money would have been better off spent on harry potter GoF movie -which i watched 5 times!
