We
earlier reported that Emma Watson -- Hermione Granger -- would be turning on the Christmas lights in Oxford.
That happened yesterday evening at 6PM. CBBC Newsround has coverage of the event
here.
Quote:
Emma said she was thrilled to have taken part in switching on of the lights.
"I have wanted to do it ever since I was very young and I saw the Spice Girls do it.
"I love Oxford Street. I have come here most Christmases because I love the lights and all the beautiful displays in all the shops, " Emma added.

I stood with 2 girls who were huge Emma fans, who had previously been very lucky when Emma had given them spare tickets she had to go inside the Prisoner of Azkaban premiere in London.

The Presenter (Jono) asked her what she wanted for Christmas, Emma took a long thought before deciding “I’d love a Candy floss making machine!”

The presenter then gave her a kiss and blushed with a smile saying “My Christmas came early this year- I just kissed Hermione!”
Quote:
The 2 girls I was with called up to Emma, Emma looked down to where we were standing and smiled the girls shouted at her “Do you remember us? You gave us tickets to the Premiere?” Emma started bouncing up & down with excitement “YES” she mouthed with a huge smile before giving a huge wave & a thumbs up to them.

Emma was asked if she would like to see the Olympics come to Great Britain in 2012 ..Emma said “Yes Definitely I am a huge fan of sport”.

Isifa has some pictures and a negative report from the event:

Actress Emma Watson who plays Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter movies is seen here glum faced after switching on the Oxford Street Christmas Lights from the Selfridges department store, London. Watson initally declined to sign autographs for Harry Potter fans Caity Mayall (18) and Jaqueline McGarrett (19) who commented to photographers that they thought Watson was "disappointing and stuck-up".
Comment from local employee:

I am an employee of Selfridges (Oxford Street store which hosted the event) and had backstage access to this event and I must say Emma looked strangely uncomfortable before she went on stage. However the moment she walked up to the podium she was booming with confidence. No photos I'm afraid... wouldnt have been appropriate
