| | |  Emma Watson talks decision to take time off school to promote Harry Potter
Emma Watson went into further detail on her decision to take time off from Brown University and college in general in a new interview with the LA Times. Emma stated that after promoting Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I in November 2010, she exhausted herself right before final exams during her fall semester. More on that, and why she chose to take the spring term off in order to focus on promoting the finale of the Harry Potter series in Deathly Hallows: Part II, as part of a feature in celebrities enrolling in university, can be read below.  Quote:
"I've had to say no to stuff that people have been gobsmacked about. I've had big directors say to me, 'What do you mean, you can't do this movie? We don't understand,'" the actress, now 21, said.
"I always hear, 'What do you mean she can't do this magazine cover?' or 'What do you mean she can't have this meeting for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity?' And my agent will say, 'She's at school, sorry.'
"Yes, it's hard for me to turn down amazing opportunities. But I've been working solidly since I've been 9 years old. So for me, to have this space to learn and figure myself out a bit is obviously worth it."

"On the last movie, I flew around on this crazy press tour, and then came back and tried to do my finals," she recalled. "I wasn't sleeping. And I realized, 'Oh, my God, I can't do this again.' I wasn't going to be able to get the best out of being at Brown and do justice to saying goodbye to 'Harry Potter' properly."

I can understand how difficult it already is to simply balance school with life but to add all of these work commitments? I can only imagine what it must have been like flying back and forth and then coming back to your finals week, which is intense. Like Emma, I was a second year school student this past term and my goodness, I remember in November when she was promoting the film, I kept wondering how on earth was Emma doing it while I was simply struggling to balance school, friends, sleep (horrible!), and just come on to SS to chat with my friends on here once in a while...
In a way, I'm glad Emma took time off because it shows that she is human after all; just because she's famous doesn't mean that she can be everywhere. I do wish her the best of luck with her studies though. I'd love to see her pull through and get her degree to fulfill her goal.
Edit: Oh my God, look at all those cameras focused on her!  That is scary.

The LaTimes just used old quotes from I think a previous interview and also an AP interview in an article about the young actors going to college. It isn't a new interview with Emma, she's just a source in the article.

I think she made the right decision. She can't go to school AND keep up with all the HP stuff; It's just too much. I love Emma and always will. She's such a good role model.

Just unreal how amazing and cool this girl is...she could have said no to college and didnt-she can retire probably 50 times over and wants to better herself thru education...I cant imagine doing school and having to do a job like Emma's-bless her heart for knowing her limits. It is very exciting to know she has at least 2 post Potter movies coming out in '11/'12!!! Of course DEATHLY HALLOWS 2!!!!! | |
