| | | Emma Watson taking dance classes for GoF
Emma Watson and Rupert Grint were both interviewed at the PoA DVD Launch by CBBC Newsround. The interviews can be read here and here. Quote:
Emma agreed. She has lots of scenes with Krum, who's her date for the infamous Yule Ball.
"Stanislav is genuinely lovely," she said. "I have to do some dancing scenes with him and he's actually not a bad dancer."
Emma admitted she was having formal dancing lessons for the ball scenes, including learning the tango and the foxtrot!
Quote:
Emma told Newsround that she was learning new skills for Hermione for the next movie - learning to dance! "And it's not just normal dancing, I'm talking the tango, the foxtrot, waltzing, it's quite impressive," she laughed.
Quote:
He said he couldn't quite believe it'd been four years since he was cast as Ron and admitted he'd seen a bit of the first film on TV a few weeks ago, which had "brought back some memories".
Rupert said it was cool to have some new cast members on the set of the fourth film, the Goblet of Fire, currently shooting at Leavesden Studios. Key new roles are filled by Katie Leung, who plays Harry's girlfriend, Cho Chang, and Stanislav Ianevski, who plays Viktor Krum.
"They're really nice, it's great to have some new people," he said.
Quote:
David added he expected to be back as Lupin in the fifth film and would be "delighted" to play the part again.
But some of the cast had different reactions when asked the big question - will they be back for films five, six and seven?!
Rupert said: "I want to do all of them if I can, they're just such good fun."
But Emma was more cautious: "Woah!" she laughed. "I've honestly no idea, no idea at all."
Quote:
Rupert told us: "We're about halfway through filming now, it's going really well. In this one you've got the Yule Ball, where we all have to find partners so that will be quite interesting. And I have to wear these horrible dress robes for the ball so I'm not really looking forward to that."
Quote:
In fact, all of the cast agreed they were having loads of fun on set at Leavesden for film four, and that new director Mike Newell was "crazy and fun".

I think it's terribly OOC. Hermione isn't a prom queen or a contestant on 'strcitly come dancing'. And, for once, I cant blame Kloves.

yeah sure, but still it's important for her to be able to dance. i'm taking dance classes too and i'm not a prom queen either.
and of course they're having fun! what else did you expect? |

Hermione doesn't seem the dancey type. Dancing is fine but learning all these different methods makes it sound like we're going to have zoom ins of Hermione dancing when the focus is meant to be on Harry. J.K.Rowling doesn't even write a scene with Hermione dancing in!! I just think it verges on silly to waste good money and time adding unnecessary details like this when the book is so big.
I agree they need to know what to do, as do the extras. I mean, they cant dance like kids our day would because it doesn't seem appropriate for Hogwarts but then again it isn't like the camera should focus on her and Krum dancing, it should just be an over-view of loads of kids dancing.

At last, my question has been answered-- I was wondering before what kind of dancing music will be used for the Yule Ball scenes in the movie.
I was thinking it would be a choice among 3--
* classical period (waltz, tango and foxtrot indeed, waltz most likely)
* modern period (80s or 90s according to the HP timeline)
* up-to-date (today's pop, rap, rock hits or maybe some new music created just for the soundtrack of GoF)

What's baffled me is why aren't Dan and Rupert getting these lessons? The camera through the Yule Ball wil be focused more on them because the story follows Harry!! And the majority of the time Hermione is with krum not them. I don't get it, are they going to do it in her perspective because that's a bit wrong.
I know they have to know how to dance, so do the extras because obviously they have to dance a certain way but not professionally.
I liked the Yule Ball more for Harry's awkwardness with Parvati. And Ron too being awkward with Padma.

Well, I remember in the book that Ron did not dance at all, so Rupert dont need to take the dance lesson...
And Harry supposedly didnt know how to dance and was just being taught how to dance by Parvati only during the Yule Ball itself, so Dan also didnt have to take dance lessons.

That's good for her. It'll give her some experience. This way she wont look wonky dancing funny.

I can't wait to see the Yule ball scene, the Great Hall is supposed to look really beautiful! I really hope they think long and hard about what Hermione is going to wear as they don't want anything to old and frumpy, but also not anything too revealing or sexy, it needs to be a fine line between the two. There are comments in the book about how well Herrmione dances, compared to the very inept boys, so dance lessons for her, are appropriate.

I didn't think that a lot of dancing was going to be involved but I guess I was wrong...

| I dont know but when she said she is taking dance lessons I sort of thought of her as a bit of a posh nosh. None of the other cast mentioned anything about it meaning none of them are getting them. Whats the point of only her getting the dance lessons and the others not getting them. I mean im sure some of the them have to dance also. Maybe she just wants to upstage all of the others in the movie. Or maybe its a Kloves idea, you know to make Hermione stand out from everyone else even Harry. The way he scripts these films it should be based on Hermione Granger rather than Harry Potter.

Um... not sure how to feel about that news.
How much dancing are they going to be showing in GoF that Emma felt the need to take lessons? I hope not too much.
And the need to look good while dancing is an Emma Watson attitude, not a Hermione Granger one. It's not really in character for Hermione to be foxtrotting like a pro... she's basically akward at everything you can't learn from a book, and this is one of those things.

That's exactly what I was thinking. They might cut a good scene out so they can include Hermione dancing. It's stupid. Quote:

*sighs* Where has our Hermione gone? Is the SPEW part going to be in the movie? |

EarthlyIllusion
I agree with all of you.
Hermione & Krum should be in the background. The only time we see Hermione dancing is when the Champions open the Ball with their partners. Granted, she needs to know what she's doing but at the same time Hermione wouldn't know all these fancy styles.
The extras - unless WB bring in dancers - need to know what they're doing as much as Emma does.
The Yule Ball should open outside with Harry looking at the gilr with Krum and not recognising her. Then the dance starting, Parvati leading Harry in the dance, him stepping on her toes, then a shot of Hermione in the background, then a shot of Harry looking like WTF?! then the dance should end and Hermione, like she does in the books, goes off with Krum and Ron and Harry take to the sidelines.
As Harry approaches Ron we see him seething about Hermione dancing with Krum and a very frsutrated Padma shouting at him to dance with her while he's not paying attention. Padma storms off and Parvati pulls on Harry's hand to try to make him dance. Too preoccupied he ignores her and she storms off. Ron and Harry then go outside for the scene following the dancing with Ron looking behind his shoulder angrily at Krum whose busily chatting to Hermione.
See, the majority of the focus SHOULD be on the action around Harry. The film isn't about Hermione so the focus should not be on her constantly.
I'd see it as a waste if they left minutes of her dancing in and then left out crucial lines in the graveyard scene or something.
