| | | Elizabeth Hurley to Play Bellatrix Lestrange?
Dark Horizons is reporting CNBC News last night said that Elizabeth Hurley ("Bedazzled", "Austin Powers") has been offered a part in the fifth Harry Potter Movie "The Order of The Phoenix" with the character described only as an "evil witch". Best guess for now is the role of Bellatrix. She apparently hasn't signed yet, but is thinking about it. Filming begins sometime next year.
Personally, I think that Elizabeth Hurley would make a "believable" Bellatrix, but I'm sure that there may be a better actress to fit that role.
Source: Dark Horizons via TLC UPDATE: WB has informed us that these rumours are completely false. So you can put your minds at rest! |

Trust me, I've already spread my hate about this on LJ and Mugglenet. -_-
She just isn't right for the part. I'm sure they could find someone else. I would think a less known actress would be better. Heck, they might even be talking about Umbridge! If that were true, then I don't think I'd waste my time seeing it.
*dies*
Please, please, please don't sign on to do the movie!
I think this is the first time I've actually got upset about a certain person being cast as a character.

I feel the same way. She is too well known, and to be blunt-hot. lol
I really wish they would get a lesser-known actress or someone who is more classy.
I hope she doesnt sign on either!

| I picture Bellatrix to be this ugly ugly woman (could have something to do with my hatred for her, lol) Elisabeth Hurley as Bellatrix?? No way! lol I'm sure she could pull off the evil side of things, but she is really pretty, lol...I really don't see her as Bellatrix. Guess we'll just have to wait and see till we hear officially.

I have to agree that she would not be very good at all. I don't mind her too much, but she is not HP material in my opinion.

Oh God. They simply CANNOT cast Elizabeth Hurley. She was dreadful in Bedazzled! Surely there's someone else...

One word guys, RUMOUR. And not a good one at that. She sucks as an actress, that's why she has no acting career left to speak of.
'Evil Witch' doesn't mean Bella, sounds morelike they're offering her a role as an extra/cameo, to me.

^ Yes, I suppose youre right and I am hoping it's just a rumor! I dont think I could stand her as Bella, she hasnt done anything credible as an actress.

I dont think Elizibeth Hurley fits the role of Bellatrix, she isnt really how i pictured her. Bedazzled is on tonight so i will be able to assess her acting skills, lol.

It is just a rumour seeing as there's no confirmation of anything. Casting hasn't even begun yet and production, even pre-production, does not start until January 2006.

This serves the same problem that 'Hugh-Grant-as-Lockhart' holds, she is fairly well known that it will take the light off the main actors. Not saying actors like Maggie Smith, Julie Walters, Alan Rickman and so on arn't well-known (because they obviously are), but Bellatrix scene's will probably only add up to under four or five minutes when you look at it as a whole. And if Hurley means more screen time then it may take away from the sixlet's DoM's adventure.
Anyway, it's obvious that some people don't think she looks right, but there there have been many pre-mature complaints about other actors who turned out to look quiet appropriate. Anyway, it's rumour so lets not count our eggs before they hatch!

Good point Will, she's far too commercial (known for money, looks and glamour rather than good quality acting.) Which is why Keira Knightely would never be in the films either, or Orlando Bloom as they're more known for commercialisation and looks rather than their acting.

Well, with the description of Bellatrix as someone who was beautiful before, I think Hurley would fit that bill. But yeah, they could always find someone better to play Bella.

I want Harriet Walter to do it. Her biggest role as perhaps in "Sense and Sensibility" (the one with Rickman and Thompson) - she played Hugh Grant's characters sister.
She has the right look, is British and is around the right sort of age.
Some of you might say she's too old but just remember this: Alan Rickman is 58 and he plays Snape who's meant to be a thirty-something year old and he can still pull it off. So, so could she.

Liz isn't someone who used to be pretty - she is still considered that and therefore would be awful in the role without even mentioning her appalling acting skills.

I just never imagined Bellatrix as ugly--nasty and evil, yes, but still good-looking nonetheless. That's why I thought that Liz H 'physically' fits the role of Bella. But acting-wise, never mind. Harriet Walter is a good choice though. |

I know alot of people think Liz is pretty, although I myself don't see it, personally. I always thought Bella as slightly reminiscent of possible good looks but I certainly don't want her looking like a brunette version of a Barbie doll.

I just watched Bedazzled, well part of it, and she is an okay actress. I think Liz would be abit better if she was in character, maybe if she was abit older too.
Marcella_Riddle, I think Hariet Walters doesnt really look like Bellatrix. She does have the bags under the eyes, but she doesnt have the evil but beautiful (once beautiful) look. She kind of reminds me of a mean mistress of a boarding school, or like someone from Oliver, actually i would choose her as the part of Mcgonnogal if it wasnt given to Maggie Smith.

I think Harriet does have that reminiscent beautiful look. Liz certainly doesn't. She's more known for falling out of bars drunk than her acting skills! I reallt don't want to see her do this.

I just dont see that beautiful look in Hariet, i'm not saying she isnt beautiful she has a different kind of beauty than what i thought that Bellatrix would have, Hariet IMO looks like a pretty aged woman. I think Liz wouldnt really be the best person for the job, and like you said, her drunkedness might bring a bad reputation to the movie, i see the headline "Drunk Actress stumbles onto the HP set". LOL

Bella is meant to be late forties, early fifties ish from what I remember. Isn't she supposed to be the same age as Molly and Lucius? They are 40 or more 50ishin the age range, as they didn't go to school with the Potters and Malfoy was at the school 50 years ago when it was first opened, wasn't he?
Is Bella supposed to be older than Black, Snape & Lupin? I'd always assumed she was.
Either way, I think we're all agreed, no Liz! What were WB thinking, if they were ever considering her? I hardly see her dashing around the DoM chasing a bunch of kids, either.

I thought that Bellatrix was about 10 or so years older than Sirius, and sirius is meant to be about the same age as Sirius, so yeah, about 40 years old. True, Liz isnt in that age bracket nor does she have the acting skills to play the role properly. But like you said, it is a rumour and we'll just have to wait and see. I hope she doesnt get cast, but only time will tell.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Elizabeth Hurley? Purlease... they could get someone so much better, not only cause she's not the best actress but because she doesn't even look the part (make-up or no)... it spells WRONG to me... let's hope it isn't true
