* Devon Murray smoking on Goblet of Fire set? - Seamus actor - short onset report Summary:
The Daily Express has an article about the Harry Potter stars growing up. Article: The Snitch has an article from THE DAILY EXPRESS which they have written up. The quote below is apparently from the article.
Apparently the article also had pictures - if anyone can scan them please do and send them into us! The feature appeared in the September 3rd edition of the paper. Quote: Its quite a spell now since they first appeared as Harry Potter's helpers. But you can't wave a magic wand in real life and make time stand still. Take Emma Watson, 14, for instance, who plays Harry's companion Hermione Granger. Quite the confident grown-up, she joked with other youngsters as she waited to go into make-up during filming of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. And Irish actor Devon Murray (Seamus Finnigan), 14, who has played one of our hero's Gryffindor House friends in all four movies, had a quiet cigarette away from the rest of the cast. Filming has now moved to Fort William, Scotland, where Emma, Devon, and Harry star Daniel Radcliffe - now with shaggy haircut - are shooting at the 400ft Steall Falls. Harry will fight a computer-created dragon. For release in November next year, it will introduce fans to Katie Leung as Harry's love intrest Cho Chang. The Snitch via Dark Mark. |

I've already seen Harry's 'shaggy' hair and it looks good (go to the GoF news page, there's links to pictures there). It just means Harry's hair is FINALLY messy like it should be.

I'm not surprised at all. It's very common over in Ireland for young children to smoke and in Europe smoking is much more acceptable then over here in the US.

Many anti-smoking campaigns are now up, packets of cigarettes have huge warnings covering the boxes saying "Smoking can and will kill" in bold black letters. Many slogans like that are used for the packaging but still people buy them.

I have also heard that a similar article has been produced in an Irish newspaper due to the fact devon (who is irish) has been caught smoking.

That's true they're attempting to warn people but it's still more acceptable in Europe then in the US. If I'm correct over in most places in Europe you can smoke in public places, bars, restaurants, subways etc. in the US you really can't smoke anywhere in public and they card anyone young trying to buy cigarettes. I've always been under the impressions it's much easier for young people over in Europe (most places not all places) to buy cigarettes.

I'm even more shocked because this IS a credible source which makes me all the more disappointed in Devon. We should send him so nicotine patches in the post.
But, with the other actors (adults) around them that do smoke, you have to wonder whether he's entirely to blame, being an impressionable youngster and all.

That is really sad, I thought he'd be a little smarter than that.
Smoking at such a young age? 'Tut, tut.' :/ I hope he stops soon.

What's odd is that smoking in public places is banned in Ireland. So how did he start of smoking in the first place, what with him being Irish?
The ban is going through for England & Wales but it hasn't gone through parliament yet.
It is somewhat easy to get them but where I am students have ID's and shops are fully aware that they're there for a reason.

In the US you have to be 18 and just about every year in school we're shown two or three movies about why we shouldn't smoke. I've gotten really sick of seeing black charred lungs or someone with a whole in their throat b/c they've smoked for so long.

Really, I didn't know that. Is it banned in both parts of Ireland or just the part that's in the UK?

Umm.. i wish there was something we could do..
Like.,, send him concerned letters or something....
But I dont think that would help since it is probably his choice..
I also wonder how he got started... If it is like you guys said it was, and it was banned.. Maybe some of his friends smoke too??
I really hope he stops :/

i hate ciggarettes, they smell horrible and they prolly taste just as bad. Im 15 and I would never think of smoking, ewwww! lol...i go to a private boarding school though and all the kids there drink and smoke (pot, too) and snort cocaine and such..its so gross. my friend liz, whenever we go by someone who is smoking she coughs really obviously and i make a face and wave my hand in front of my face. smoking in public definitely shouldn't be allowed anywhere..esp where kids/teenager are gonna go..its disgusting!
so, who's gonna chip in on those patches? lol

~Jes [/b][/quote] I agree. And I would pitch in if I could. I too am around a lot of people who smoke pot and weed and such, and I would never be caught dead smoking something like that. |
