Post David Yates talks OotP

The Herald recently conducted an interview with David Yates, the director for 'Order of the Phoenix'. He talks about the new Potter project and David Heyman comments on Yates' directing style.

Quote:
"I'm out here to work on the screenplay with the writer and have a little chat with the people at the studio about how we are doing and what we are planning," says Yates with the kind of understatement that only a Brit could pull off in Hollywood.

"Now, I'm going to New York to meet a cameraman I'm quite interested in," he says. "I'll be back in the UK next week. It's normally not as mad as this."
Quote:
Yates's debut was inspired by another of his heroes, David Lean. The Tichbourne Claimant bears a resemblance to Lean's Dickens adaptations, Oliver Twist and Great Expectations, and the gothic styling and period detail of those films may well inform the next-but-one Harry Potter adventure.
Quote:
The Order of the Phoenix's producer, David Heyman, describes Yates as "a director with a keen visual sense who fills each frame with humanity and compassion for his characters".
Quote:
Yates says: "David Heyman called me and asked if I'd be interested, he had been following the work I'd been doing over the years. I love the books. So, I read the fifth one and I thought that there was some great stuff. Stuff about celebrating being different, that's what the fifth book did for me. I'm having a fantastic time just as we're starting out."
Yates also directed the BBC drama, The Girl in the Café , a part of the Make Poverty History campaign, that was aired on Saturday night.

It'll be very interesting to see how he will do it...giving the fact that OotP is such a huge book...Then again we know the main focus will be on Harry and his 'journey'...

Interesting to say the least *Ottery's thinking*

Harry dressed in tattered robes walks up to Professor Snape in the Great Hall asking for more porridge, "Please sir, can I have some more?"

It's either that...or Ron's going to come into a lot of money from a mysterious benefactor...the whole time he's thinking its Professor McGonagall but in the end it turns out to be Filch whom he helped escape from prison and then Hermione's going to marry Krum anyways...

No it's not! Did we read the same book? It's all about Ron and how he's so cute and Hermione loves him and...uhm, well yeah it's about Harry being angry all the time too, but it's not about celebrating differences and it's not about giants either so leave them out...

Luna's different. Does that mean he likes Luna? I hope so. Differences are also in the DD & Harry Vs the Ministry thing. Yup.

I really wish they'd consider the fact of doing it as 2 movies instead of 1. I mean, it's already really sad to see things cut out from GOF, and OOTP is humungous! You can't just cut things out!

I can't stress how much David Yates is making me excited for OotP. I really like his enthusiasm and vision... and that does sound a bit sarcastic, doesn't it? Wasn't meant to.

Two would take double the time. Hence making the kids be even older. They're already all gunna be 17 + by OotP's release; making it into two parts would mean they'd probably all be 18 + by the time it came out!

If 'the girl in the cafe' is anything to go by, then OOTP is gonna be the best yet!!

Yates knows how to get the right message across.

If anybody saw this bbc drama, they would know that towards the end of the first part, a very strong and controlled scene was shown which explained the simple reasoning behind the 'make poverty history' campaign.
It was very moving. 1, 2, 3 and another one

He is a stroke of genious and I am very happy to have him join the family of hp directors! Go Yates!!

i'm apprehensive of how much material they'll cut from the 5th book. pretty much half the book has to be kicked.

i just pray they finally make this movie at least 3 hours long and maybe more.

I totally agree. That drama was spot on and just had so much feeling, so much emotion. Bravo Yates! They should also get Richard Curtis (who wrote the screenplay amonst many other projects) to do HP at one point or another. I just adore his work. Adore, adore!! Plus Richard's worked with 2 Potter directors; Yates (on The Girl ... ) and Newell (On Four Weddings ... )

With the title of HP director turning into a post similiar to Defense Against the Dark Arts, I trust that Yates will work wonders with Order.
