In Empire magazine’s Dec. issue, director David Yates talks about the running time for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Quote:
The book's huge, but it actually distills quite easily... That said, I've shot a movie that's probably over three hours, so I'll have to lose 45 minutes in the edit.

I've always felt that OOTP, even though it's longer, would be a much, much easier book to adapt than GoF. GoF was shorter but the plot introduced a tonne of new characters and had a lot of plotlines, a few of which were complicated.
That being said, I'm still ****** that Weasley is our King is out of the movie.

I just don't get why David can't leave in those 45 minutes! If they're concerned about kids not wanting to sit for 3 hours, I'm sure there aren't little kids going to see the HP movies anymore. Those little kids that saw the first and second movie have grown up and they can handle sitting for a long time!! Right?  Ugh... LOTR was 3 hrs. +. Come on David! Make the leap!
