In a new video interview, recorded at the International Festival of Authors in Toronto, David Thewlis has admitted that he had once thought Lupin was gay. Quote:
"The funny thing when Alfonso Cuaron directed The Prisoner of Azkaban, the first film that I appear in, he had the idea that Lupin was gay and he described my character like a 'gay junkie'. And of course Lupin turns out not to be gay because he marries Tonks and has children."

It's funny, at the end of POA when he's telling Harry the reasons he resigned, he never actually used the term "werewolf", he said things like "parents won't want SOMEONE LIKE ME" teaching their children. For awhile there was a bit of discussion as to whether or not that could be veiled references to Lupin possibly being gay....

Well, I never thought he was gay, the character Lupin! I mean he's too freaking hot of a character! Plus, there's already a lot of mystery to the character and I think that would overdo it a little!
I love Lupin with Tonks and I still picture Anna Friel as Tonks and that her and David kind of portray the two in real life! Well, sorta, if you get what I'm saying?!? It's a different way of thinking things especially with the "Dumbledore is gay", I'm sure a lot of other characters are going to be questioned about their sexuality.

That's funny, I honestly didn't catch any vibes like that with Lupin, but I kinda wondered about Dumbledore. It doesn't bother me. I mean we all need someone to love no matter who they are. 
I personally still think the world of both Lupin and Dumbledore. Luffs on them both.

Oscar Wilde was a brilliant man.  That would be a quote from him. It's a paradox and it's brilliant. I always thought Remus and Sirius had a thing. One of my favourite ships really.... but only one of. I think it's great to see this up in the news! I'm really glad that Dumbledore's sexuality has helped to move things forward in the world. I think it's really going to help people accepting gays and/or coming out themselves. I wonder what other characters are actually gay according to Jo. I know who I always imagined gay. I've got about six characters--well, eight counting Dumbledore and Grindelwald because I thought that was obvious in DH-- that I think are gay. JK Rowling is an astounding woman. Besides, Remus and Tonks kind of got married in the rush of war and possibly because Sirius wasn't 'round. | |
