Summary:
In the Sunday Morning Herald there is a very short piece on David Thewlis who was recently in Australia.

Article:

David Thewlis: "Rupert is a natural actor"

David Thewlis aka Professor Remus John Lupin has complimented Rupert Grint aka Ron Weasley in a recent interview with the Sunday Morning Herald.

Quote:
If any three people are likely to turn into precocious child stars, they are the young actors at the centre of the Harry Potter movies.

Quote:
But one of their co-stars, David Thewlis, insists they have not become movie brats just yet.

"That's your first thought when you meet them - that they must be precocious and it's all gone to their head," he said in Sydney yesterday. "But they're really not. They're actually very, very nice and funny and good company."

Quote:
But Thewlis, who joined the cast as Professor Lupin for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, thinks it will be difficult for them to have acting careers outside the series.

"The most likely is Rupert," he said. "I think he's the most natural actor. He's the oldest of the three. I can imagine him moving on."
When speaking of Radcliffe aka Potter, he says,

Quote:
"Someone is going to have to make a brave casting choice to give him something that takes him away from Harry Potter," Thewlis said. "Or he's going to have to shave his head and grow a beard ... to get away from it."

On Alfonso Cuaron,

Quote:
"It had not been very well publicised in the British press that the man who did Y Tu Mama Tambien, which was about teenage sex and drugs, was going to do Harry Potter. I thought that was a very strange idea. Now I think it's a genius idea because he's made it so much more interesting."

There is also a video of the interview which can be found here in the related box titled "Playing Professor Lupin".

Personally, I couldn't agree more. But I think that Emma Watson is really excellent as well.

Natural actor?, really?, I've always thought that of the trio Rupert is definitely the one who cannot act, and when he does, he overeacts. But well, poor guy, he's been kind of left aside, what with everyone talking about Dan and Emma's progres, and not a single word about him, at least someone noticed him lol.

Hmm well he doesn't get the best lines does he. He never gets a chance to shine in that way. I think he's got a really natural touch and like people say, he has good comic timing.

I definitely give Rupert a lot of credit for his talent. He may be the comic relief, but if anyone has ever done a comic role they know sometimes it's harder than dramatic roles. To do comedy you have to have a perfect sense of timing, and that's often not something that can be taught.

It's true, though, he's been typecast. Everyone will always look at him and see Harry Potter- especially if he goes on to do the rest of the series.

I think Rupert's more natural because he wasn't taught drama in the same sense that the others were. He attended a normal state school, whereas the other two are private school kids, even before they got their parts. And I think Rupert is still at the same school, he hasn't changed to private.

I don't think we should rule dan's future acting career out just yet. His looks could change and he might grow a beard, he's only 14 ain't he? Anyway, Dan's dream is to be in a band.

OMG is Rupert really going to be charlie?! that would be awesome, my 2 favorite actors, Johnny Depp and Rupert Grint working together!! I think Rupert is the best actor out of the three and he better get some better lines in GoF and he should be the faithful sidekick to Harry in GoF- not Hermione! She is the witty best friend!

Yes, I think that too, I feel he may have a few problems with casting once HP is over, I hope not for his sake, but playing the Harry Potter character could be both a blessing and a burden.

[color=blue]I don’t agree with that, since we are in different times, movies evolve and the industry too, I believe after HP, if he waits 1 or 2 years, he can play any character at all, I can see Dan playing the son of a big star in a movie, or playing secondary rolls, Mark after SW did independent an very bad movies, I believe none of the trio are going to play the main character in a movie, probably Emma is the only one who can do that, but we have to see.

Now talking about the character, Rupert did good in PoA, not the best job, his character is suppose to be funny, not that smart and that crushes with Hermione all the time, there were part in the movie where he did sound very fake, and one of then was at the end with the time turner, after Dumbeldore left the Hospital, just check his expression, too overacting. It is very easy to pay that kind of role instead of a dramatic one, I played that role many times in School Theater, and too me it was very easy to do that compare to do a more dramatic role.
Emma: as Hermione is suppose to be bossy, know at all, and very secure of herself (well most of the time). Emma plays it very good.
Dan: as Harry, he is not suppose to be goofy, or bossy or very self confident, I believe every time that I read the book he can be a bit dorky, insecure and very unaware of thing around him. Dan plays this roll to the perfection, Gary who plays Sirius and has more international exposure than David already said that if Dan keeps working could become a great actor. And not only Gary Oldman said that but many critics that had review the movies.[/COLOR
