In a new interview with IESB.net David Heyman, producer on the Potter films, talks about the Deathly Hallows movie split and admits he initially wasn't convinced by the idea. Quote: IESB: I have to ask the obligitory Harry Potter questions, is it a good thing they split up the upcoming films?
Heyman: Yes, I didn't want to do it initially. I was like, "This is crazy." And then the decision rested ultimately with the filmmakers. The studio said you do whatever you think is right and initially I was like, "This is crazy!" And then I started going through the book and the thought of doing it in one film is insane. This is the story where so much is resolved. In previous films we've been able to remove certain things that didn't relate to Harry, we took Harry's journey. And in this one it was nothing, I mean, it was so much harder to remove things. To think what we could have removed would have been the Deathly Hallows, but the book is called The Deathly Hallows and that would have been slightly problematic. And so we made the decision and I was speaking with Steve the other day, Kloves the writer, and he says, "you know there are times I think we could have done three movies..." There is so much material and it's such great material that now I feel very positive about the two film approach.
David also spoke about filming the movies and compared them to other projects he's worked on. Quote: Heyman: That's what we do on the Potter films, actually, especially in IMAX, we shoot in 2D and then they make 3D out of it, it's pretty impressive.
Heyman: Every film, I made a film this year for 4 million pounds, that's what 7 million dollars and also did the Harry Potter films, ultimately you have a lot of the same problems, it's just about managing those problems.
In terms of life post-Potter, David considered if he would ever work with the characters again. Quote: IESB: Do you think it's the end for the Harry Potter franchise and characters on the big screen after the last book?
Heyman: I would not be involved in a film based on Jo's characters without Jo's stories, so my sense is yes, unless Jo magically writes something else Harry Potter that is not a Harry Potter tale, not Tales of Beedle the Bard or the books on Quidditch, if she wrote something like that maybe but I am not sure she has any plans to do so.
He also spoke about what appealed to him when he first optioned the Harry Potter books. Quote: IESB: What is it that you guys look for when you pick up a property, or a novel, what do you guys do specifically?
Heyman: For me it's about finding something in the story that I connect with, it's as simple as that. In Potter, I'd been to a school not unlike Potter, I had teachers not unlike Snape and McGonnagol and Dumbledore, teachers who I admired and got along with and teachers who I hadn't got along with, friends who I was close to and...Jo's characters are so vivid that's why I responded to that.

hmmmm! 3 movies out of DH! that would have really interesting.
i think most fans initially "connect" with the rich characters JKR creates, good and bad.

very cool! I can't believe they would take out the deathly hallows if they weren't going to split it! I wasn't so thrilled about the split at first but if it means we'll actually get the whole story I am all for it.  | |

Personally, the more HP movies the better. Since we can't do anything about the release of the #6 movie, let's move on. But I am really looking forward to the #7 and #8 movies. Those will be the culmination of a fantastic book and adventure. Just like Deathly Hallows, the last two movies will be classics. Yes, I agree that one movie would not do DH justice. Let's move on.

3 movies would of taken a toll on me. The anticipation would of killed me. lol. But what if she is writing another Harry Potter book? Why would he say that unless he knew? And that is possible since a lot happened after Harry killed Voldemort.

Bwahahhaa. He's a funny fella. The whole talk about there being another movie after DH is...well, crazy. xD It was asked in a really funky way and there are so many ways we can try and twist his words but..yeah. I doubt he meant anything by it. xD

Lol, yes...I mean, if it's a tv episode I already get crazy annoyed..
Maybe it will get people who only watch the movies get to read the books because they want to know the end, though..
