Post David Heyman talks Deathly Hallows: Part II 3D storytelling, character aspects

Harry Potter producer David Heyman spoke to SFX about the decision to give Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II a 3D theatrical and IMAX release, as opposed to Part I. Heyman noted that with the finale of the series, the 3D element added to the character and storytelling aspects of the film, and not just the visual effects. He also admitted, once again, that Part: I has been converted to 3D for a yet-to-be-announced Blu-ray release.

Quote:
“The way [director] David Yates is approaching 3D is he’s trying to approach it from a character and story point of view. Trying to use the sense of isolation, of separation that sometimes 3D gives you, to heighten that at appropriate moments. So we’re approaching it in a storytelling way.

“In terms of Deathly Hallows Part One, we just ran out of time,” he admits, “and in discussion with the studio, we told them we couldn’t preserve the quality and make the movie the way we wanted to deliver it if we made it in 3D. And they understood, and they were supportive.

“Funnily enough I think this last film will benefit more from the 3D than the first one would have. It‘s more epic and operatic. The first one was a more intimate film so 3D didn’t feel as germane. But ultimately, we’ve done 3D for the Blu-ray so Part One will be available in 3D in your home at some point.”
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II will be released in theatres and IMAX in July.

I don't wanna see it in 3D the first time, but I'm not sure about that 3d thing and all the fasts battles scenes. It mught Blur, as it does for most of the movies in 3D when there is motion?

I'm not a huge fan of 3D, but I guess the cinema nearby will be showing just the 3D, so I'll have to get used to it
It'll be great no matter what :'D

Me neither. I'll see it in 2D, then see it in 3D later.

3D, in my humble opinion, is simply obnoxious....i never feel like i am part of the movie, just getting a headache from it all!

I wear glasses and because of that 3D movies are often not worth it to me. It has a different effect putting the 3D glasses over glasses, especially bigger ones. If I must I will probably bring my old pair which are smaller so the 3D glasses fit over them better.

But really #D is often a waste of money. The last one I enjoyed was Alice in Wonderland ( The Tim Burton version. I hate that there are so many movies you have to see in 3D cause the theater does not have it in 2D. I can't wait till needing the glasses to see 3D is a thing of the past. That way I don't have to worry about fitting those stupid glasses over my glasses. You can tell me to try contacts but most people tell me I am too sensitive about my eyes and I cannot say they are wrong.

I honestly don't know if I want to see it in 3D. At first the idea sickened me because I thought it would ruin everything, but now I'm not so sure. I have to take some time to decide.

its time to choose between what is right and what is easy

i too am not a big fan of 3D. so i am alittle torn because our imax theatres here let you pick your seat so they are assigned seating, which is great for movies on opening nights because you dont have to wait all day in line. which of course is worth doing esp for Harry, but may have to bite the bullet and see it in 3d at the midnight show to get a good seat.

I'm a little torn about seeing it in 3D but, I'll probably see it!

The 3d might make the fast action a little blurred, but much more impressive. I hope my friends want to see the première in 3d.

Heyman is the best producer ever.
I completely agree with him
He's the only one that stayed with the trio all the time
