Well, Rupert doesn't seem to be the social type of person, so I'm not surprised. (Although it would be nice to see both of them together again.)

Isn't the source of this news with Dan and his relationships with Rupert and Emma from a tabloid? I don't know how much stock I put into it.
Even if it is true though with Rupert and Dan...this happens with alot of people after spending a great deal of time together. Anybody who has graduated from school can attest to this. I'm sure they like each other and consider the other a lifelong friend due to all they have experienced together but their lives are going in different directions right now.

I am sure they are still friends, Rupert always appears to be the quiet one of the trio. When Dan talked about Rupert on the JR show, there was a lot of affection in the story he told. The problem the trio face is we all exoect a replication of the onscreen relationship, nothing less will do. But if you relate it to your classroom/work place relationships. There are people within those environments you get on great with, but never see them in a social enviroment. In fact you know nothing about them outside of school/work. yet i'm sure you and they would still class yourselves as friends. Also remember this quote is 'cold' you have to hear and see it in context of the interview. I remember Matt saying Rupert is so laid back that they might not text for ages, yet when they meet it's still cordial.

can I just say that i can't believe people are falling over that quote without stopping and think for two seconds?

I mean, for one the date of this so called "quote" is dated February- when we still on January.

#2 it didn't quite registered till i clicked on the "source" link that it was THE mirror. one of the two WORST newspapers in all of Britain. I mean both mirror and the daily mail (or daily FAIL as some people call it) are notorious for misconstructing quotes and creating Drama when there is none.

in fact the whole "Emma and I text all the time.." been taken from another interview, from mtv about emma and dan texting each other for advice, and if recall rupert got mentioned there too:

i mean honestly, before I laid eyes on that ridiculous "quote" I watched the Jonathan Ross interview and Rupert got mentioned quite a lot by dan in feeling grateful for the gift rupert gave him and making jokes about the trumpet that only a friend who knows the other could make, and just said a lot of lovely things about rupert like "Rupert gave me a trumpet which he himself had engraved. because rupert he is slightly mad he engraves gifts for me an emma of random instruments and yeah it's lovely.... he writes cards to us.... when this japanese girl met rupert she was obsessed.... and if you know rupert he cannot cope with that kind of thing' struggling to keep it together and still be the polite nice person he is "

you know that's quite a few nice thing he said about rupert' and that interview is from this month.

and oh look An ACTUAL quote, by Dan on an Actual interview, where he says the Exact opposite:

and dont they say actions speak louder than words? so what if rupert is a bit more quiet and reserved? that doesn't make him any less of a good friend material. if anything everyone praises him for being able to make people laugh.

and alright, maybe dan and rupert haven't seen much of each other last year, but that's because Rupert was filming Comrade in NORWAY and dan well been a theater all year round performance. maybe the Reason why Dan and Emma been able to text each other more or seen each other more this last year was because they were both in the states, while again rupert was filming in norway.

plus it would be just typical of the mirror to try to put a spin to it that hints at emma and dan being closer because of the usual they used to fancy each other drama thing.

and lastly, they all been apart for what now- 5-6 month? when they known each other for 10 or so years? i bet that once things calm down and they are each settled in their respective individual career they'll get in contact more. a few years do not break a true friendship (and i'm talking from experience- I wasn't able to talk to my best friend for 2 years- and when we got back in contact it was if no time has passed. and it's not like they lack the technology (skype,etc)

So if Rupert can keep in touch enough with Jessie Cave, who he only know since she got introduced as lavender in the sixth film, he more than likely can keep in touch with Dan and emma, whom he had known longer.

so all in all I call that quote a shady piece of shady scandal rag, we should have more trust in what we already seen from the trio in showing that they are good friends- instead of listening to an usually unreliable piece of rag like the mirror.

I agree, most definitely. This seems like rubbish. I could NEVER see Dan talking about his personal relationships with the cast like this so bluntly. I bet him and Rupert dont talk a lot yeah, but this exaggerated? No. I also don't think he wouldn't call ANY franchise crap. That's definitely not Dan.
I agree with everything you said. They are very busy and for them to throw it out of context like this is wrong. They all love one another and try to see each other as much as possible. They're all doing their own thing now and I am sure they all keep in contact.

Hmm, goldenGryffingirl has made a very good case for taking this Mirror story with a grain of salt. Her sources and back up seem much more reliable than the original source. Good job. (and p.s. - even if they haven't texted for awhile, it means nothing. My best friend and I have separate, very busy lives now. Sometimes we don't see each other for over a year, and may talk only every 6 mths. But when we do, it's as if the last time we hung out was the day before. That's what close friendship is - it can always withstand extended separation).

No, I'm not buying the Mirror Story. I think they probably keep in touch more than this states. And if they don't, that doesn't mean they aren't close. They are both busy guys and yes they may start drifting farther apart, but doesn't mean they aren't friends. Rupert for Pete's sake wore Dan's HTSIBWORT shirt and one of Dan at one of the Potter premiere's. I think they are fine.

Exactly. Daniel said already he isn't texting with Rupert that much, because they are both lazy. But Daniel was one Time really angry at the Press already, because they wrote is as if Rupert and he are not Friends, what is not true. Now it happens again. Daniel didn't say for sure these exactly Words the Mirror posted. I'm a bit shocked to see Snitchseeker posted it. I don't know who gave Snitchseeker the Link of the Mirror Article, but it must be someone who is really believing it and this is just sad.

They aren't obligated to be best mates, they are not Ron and Harry i know, But there's something in Daniel words (IF they're his), that seems a bit harsh... Almost like if he didn't like Rupert, which i don't think by the way.
On the last 3 interviews i've seen (cos they were videos) of Daniel, he always talks about Rupert, even if the interviewer don't mention him, and always using nice words, and with a smile in his face, the way you do when you remember someone you really care about. So i get they don't see each other often (specially cos last year they lived in different continents) but saying that when they see each other they only say "Hello, how's things with you. bye" Sounds like the polite relationship you have with the neighbor you hate.
