New quotes have emerged from an interview in which Dan Radcliffe talks about the problem of flies on the set of December Boys, and having to smoke for his roles in Equus, December Boys & My Boy Jack.

"The flies were incredible. A scene had to be cut because of the amount of flies on the camera and on the actors and on the crew. It was just unbelievable. "And I don't particularly like smoking, but it was in the script. It's one of those things. "I smoked in (London stage play) Equus too and I had to smoke in (new film) My Boy Jack. Whatever the script says the character does, I do, whether I like it or not."

Hang on hang on hang on, from the article in Details from a few months back Dan said he smokes...as in real life, he's a smoker....Marlboros if I'm not mistaken...........

I don't know about the on screen smoking. With so much teen smoking in the USA I am not happy about someone like Dan smoking and making kids think it is okay to smoke. I am a former smoker, and I am so against smoking. I don't see it as necessary to have someone who is looked up to smoke in a movie. I wish they had not had him smoke in the movies.

I don't think he should live his life always second guessing what his fans will think. That would be extremely restrictive, not to mention ridiculous. It's stupid that the media choose to focus on nudity and smoking, when his character blinds 6 horses in Equus. But of course, that headline won't be as controversial.

It can be but I think it depends on the individual. Herbal cigarettes don't contain nicotine - which is the addictive substance standard cigarettes have.

That implies that he has more influence on kid's lives than their parents. Which, if it's true, is a very sad and wrong state of affairs. You can't blame actors if parents fail to teach their children the difference between fiction & reality.

Of course - he's done a lot of stunt work on HP so I don't see why not.

Given that it's set in the '50s/'60s, the director thought it was necessary to be true to the period.
