| | |  Dan Radcliffe in new film role
Several sources are reporting that Dan Radcliffe is to star in ' December boys', a small independent film about four orphans who were born in the same month, growing up in 1960s Australia, based on a novel by Michael Noonan.
Filming is set to begin after the release of ' Goblet of Fire'. This shouldn't affect ' Order of the Phoenix', which starts shooting in Spring 2006. Daily Variety says that Dan will play the eldest of the four boys who compete to be adopted by a childless couple. Quote:
"Late '60s-set drama unfolds at an isolated beach resort, where Radcliffe's 16-year-old character also has his first love affair."
The Australian has said: Quote:
"Daniel is an actor with talent and intelligence beyond his years," said Richard Becker, who will produce the film.
"He can step into any role and deliver a brilliant performance."
Empire has said: Quote:
And if that weren’t enough, the movie looks set to serve Radcliffe with his first screen kiss, as his character will also have a romance with a young girl, played by eighteen year-old Teresa Palmer.
Depending on December Boys’ shooting and release schedules, this kiss may precede the one Harry shares with Cho Chang in Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix. Either way, Radcliffe had better stock up on lip balm.
December Boys will start filming this November on the south coast of Australia.
Teresa Palmer, 18, has also been cast in the film which will be directed by Rod Hardy. This is Dan's first new role since becoming Harry Potter.
A representative for Dan has confirmed that he will star in the Australian film this Autumn.

I congratulate him on the new role! I do worry that he may be spreading himself a bit thin what with all his work on HP. It sounds like a good flick though and I would definitley go see it. He is very talented and I hope that he will continue to have work when HP is done. There is nothing worse for an actor then to be type-cast as one character and never get another job... Anyway, I wish him the best of luck!

I think it will be good for Dan to take a breather from HP to star in this movie. I think it will be the breath of fresh air that he needs before the OotP starts filming next year. That way he will not get fed up of only starring in one type of movie for last 5 years. We need to see his talent in other areas of acting apart from HP. Only then will he will not be said to be "that boy that was Harry Potter" but an acclaimed actor.

I'm really interested in seeing him portray a 'love affair' because that's very different to Harry, who's hopeless with girls.
But why an orphan? He's done that before; both in HP and David Copperfield.
Sounds like an interesting synopsis though. I hope it gets released over here, although it probably will because of Dan's involvement in it.

Awesome! I hope it comes out around my birthday, I'd love to see it. But just out of curiousity, will Dan have to put on an Australian accent or is Australia just where it's being shot, not actually where the story is located?

That's great news--i'm sure he'll do a great job! and i agree, I think he does need a breath of fresh air...it'll be nice to see him in something else But I was thrown off by it being a "small, independant film" Does that mean we won't see it in theaters? I hope not--i'd really like to see it and i hope it's released in the US...that just stumped me though--i mean, Dan could probably land just about any big budget movie role he wanted! hmm

Not necessarily. That phrase means it's being funded by an independent company and not some big corporation like WB or Disney. It'll probably be released in the UK & Australia and the US because of Dan, but nothing's official on that score. Quote:

Why would he want to though? He's already doing Harry Potter, which is big budget, so he probably wants to do something totally different. Big budget doesn't always equal to highest credibility anyway.

This is pretty good for Dan. BUt I swear I thought I just read that he doesn't want to rush into any movies. I sthat true? For some weird reason I cannot imagine Dan playing this type of role. But I guess I will just have to see the movie
