I hope nothing like this happens ever again. You should never believe those people online who pose as though they are famous celebrities.

She must've had a bit of money herself to be able to afford a flight to the UK. To have PC access, as she supposedly received emails from him, she'd have to have a bit of money. So she probably wasn't poor.

Urrmm DR's home is as far away from a mansion as you can get. It's a normal semi in a normal street with normal people. His family aren't rich. He might have omney from the films, but it's in his parents guard untill he's 18.

But, like everyone else has said, it's silly for the mother to have ever believed that DR would be contacting her daughter. Let alone believe him cheeky enough to ask them to fly over to meet him.

His parents reaction was really good. I mean, from the description, the girl was obviously very excited and hysterical, so letting her meet Dan like that woul only have resulted in scaring the poor kid.

and i think his parents have been exceptional nice to her, from what we can tell. i mean, i think it's hard tot to become rude having such a hysterical girl in front of you...

I think that's horrible that she went all the way there and those emails weren't even from Dan. Dan's parents I think are handling it very well. Never believe somebody who says they r a celebrity on the internet. There are so many weirdos in this world you could be talking to anyone!

Once I remember going to sign a guest book and there it was the name Tom Felton and Daniel Radcliffe in there saying how they hated the page in question. I laughed and even insulted their rudeness, were they the real ones or not. So I think this kind of a bit of a joke, specially you who say '*aw! poor Daniel!*' like the guy was bothered in the first place! Sure, it was embarrassing to the both parents but I still think you all are over-reacting.
But Emma (Marcella_Riddle), I've a bit of a disagreement with you here:

So to this girl I don't think it would be *that* illogical that little Daniel Radcliffe would want to be her friends. Who knows! Maybe Daniel DID send those letters but just to play with her.

--I'm not going to comment on this -__- The only one I feel pity if for the parents who seemed pretty upset by it, not that the girl and the mother weren't; but *poor kid*??? Won't anybody think about anybody else but Radcliffe??? After all, and again, he wasn't even bothered in the first place!

No, I just happened to have the seen the street he lives in and it's all very normal and average looking.

I'm not defending Daniel as he's got no involvement in this. But it was rather naieve to think an actor would be contacting you and asking you to fly over to him, when he's the one with the money and so logically should fly over to her.

I think the girl and her mother forgot the biggest rule of the Internet which in my mind is that it is a fantasy land. Seriously, every person on here could be someone else. Marcella could be a 40 year old guy and I could be 50 woman. The internet isn't real life. Too many kids, and adults have been suck into a black hole because they forget this. Too many end up hurt and some die because of their lack of judgement. It's basic internet safety.

Never, never ever arrange to meet an online friend in a private place the first time...it should always be public like a resturant.

Always let someone know where you're going and when you will return. Give them your cell number if you have one and the number of the resturant.

Carry either spare change or a phone card to make a phone call if you need to.

If you live alone set up a time to call your best friend when you return home. If you don't call let her/him know it's okay to call the resturant to look for you.

Never accept a ride after the meeting. Take a subway, taxi or bus home after the meeting.

Never give out your full name, or address to anyone over the internet unless it is a secured site like Amazon.com.

Even trading pictures online creates a safety risk for you.

I learned this from my uncle who is a detective in the US before I left for boarding school in the UK.

Thought it might serve as a reminder to some folks.

Thank you Marcella. I do think of it that way. It can be helpful when I need information for school, and relaxation also but it is not life. I have to make sure I "unplug" enough to live my life here at school. That includes study groups, sports, and other things beside my laptop.

Perhap the girl in question needs to unplug too.

WOW! This whole thing is just way weird! For one I cant believe that she would actually go to see him and that her mom would let her. Second, I feel bad for Dan and his family to have to go through that. But most of all how did they figure out where he lives???
