That's ridiculous... it's a play! I mean... people smoke in movies all the time, and they're not bad influences... why can't Dan pretend to smoke??

Honestly, smoking is everyone's choice. I've never wanted to smoke just because some celebrity does, or vise versa. I think everyone should make up their own mind, and if they want to copy a celebrity, then we should worry more about their self-esteem issues than the copying.

Blehhhh....just people trying to make something out of nothing again I mean if he smoked for real, that'd be bad but I'm sure there are plenty of other 'role models' who do much worse. Dan, I think, has been a fantastic role model so far...doing something so daring...it's amazing Go dan!

If it was for real, THAT would be bead but that it's in a play, then it's fine!

It is a shame that smoking is in the script, but its his choice! He's acting! A lot of people do things they would never do when they act. Yeesh.

Even though Dan is smoking on stage but not in real life still doesn't mean that after this play is done that he won't start smoking. Smoking is addictive and since he is smoking so much on stage, he might become addicted to it. I understand that the smoking is important for the scene, but why can't he pretend to smoke???

Even with the smoking, I still think that Dan is a good role model because smoking is not as bad as some things that other actors do.

totally in agreement the main reason kids start taking up smoking is because they see other people doing it and they want to seem 'cool' that definately is a self esteem issue and that is what we should be more worried about. Dan is smoking in the play because it was in the script. Not to mentioned that young Harry Potter/Dan Radcliff fans are unlikely to go and see this pay in the first place and if they are old enough to see it than they are old enough to distinguish that he is only doing this for the play

Oi, I think they're making this much more than it has to be. People smoke; it was in a play - Dan is an actor, he was acting a character that smoked.

Yes, smoking is gross. But parents should be there to teach their children smoking is bad, and let them know not to base their lives off what an actor does to play a fictional role.

My goodness, poor Dan. I highly doubt he jumped up and down when he read in his script that he had to smoke, and now people are making it out to be a whole blasphemous thing.

I think it's sad the way people apologize for celebrity, it's not enough they have all the money, power, the looks, and the questionable mental states but they've got hordes of people who pretend like media has no influence.

I think it's cute that some of us can make up our minds not to smoke because we know better and watching Dan do it in a play doesn't matter ... but I don't know too many five or ten year olds who could be burdened with the weight of that decision ... or 20 year olds either ... come to think on it, I know a couple of 50 y/o who ... but I digress.

Smoking is and they can change the play. The media can kiss my one minute they're using their power to 'Save the whales' and the next they're saying it's free choice who smokes ... yeah whatever.

Once again its just acting. He isn't a bad influence on anyone, he is just doing his job. And if some kid is going to take up smoking just because Dan (his character really) did it the play then that child is the one with the problem. Its not Dan's fault if people are weak of character.

okay... this is stupid... okay yeah he's smoking... not a good influence... but its his JOB to potrey the charecter he's been assigned and if he has to smoke he has to smoke. I mean for god sake it isn't like he's going around strret corners and lighting up every three seconds. And anyone who's not dumb can figure out that it's bad with out people cutting things out of beautiful art. It isn't the only place you'll see smoking and you don't hear them complaing about all that... psh... i'm not even going to continue...

Dan is just an actor in that play. He isn't like going out on the streets and handing kids the stuff to smoke and tell 'em to do things like having sex. It is our owm choice to do those things. Anyway it is just acting. It's not like he's doing it for real. (He better not ever! Or he'll have a visit from me!) That's why we learn right from wrong!

i mean if he doesn't do it in real life, and he HAS to do it for his character, what can he do? he didn't write the play. i mean i was kind of upset at first when i saw the pics but now that i know he's not doing it for real i don't think it's that big of a deal.

And again, even if he did smoke in RL, it's his life. His choices.

I understand why they would disprove, but it's just in the play. Like I've said before somewhere, Dan's said numerous times that he wants to live healthy.

As long as Dan deosn't start smoking outside of the play, I can deal with it. But I hate smoking. I've had too many family members who smoke, I guess.

I've heard enough about this whole controversy over him playing the rold in the first place!

i can handle the fact that he's smoking in the play, but like everyone else, if he takes up smoking in real life, then people might not admire him as much as an influence.
