| | |  Confirmed: Gary Oldman will return for Phoenix
As previously reported, a decision on whether Gary Oldman would be reprising his role as Sirius Black in the now filming 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix' would be coming soon. This morning, Mr. Oldman's manager, Doug Urbanski, confirmed to fan site GaryOldman.info and HPANA that an agreement has been made with Warner Brothers and that Gary will indeed be returning for 'Order of the Phoenix'. Quote:
"I'm so relieved and happy," said Urbanski. "I can't put my mind in the place of the producers, but I would've thought that when they read the book, a call to us would've been very high on their list. Obviously, the character of Sirius Black is key."

"It's a wonderful role. Gary read the script last night, and he read part of it to me on the phone this morning. The end of the story is: Gary's in it. It's a terrific script, and he's so happy to be back."

Well I'm in two minds. For one, I'm glad they're consistant, but for the other, I think they could do better than Gary. *ducks swats from snarling fan girls*

ooh.. ill be the first! i think he's great as sirius! i also think he's highly underated as an actor in general. he's so versatile, he's played so many unique roles brilliantly. and c'mon.. he looked totally sexy as sid.

I'm glad, not just because I am a fan of Gary Oldman (mostly from Fifth Element!), but also because I so dislike recasting in the middle of a series. They've only had to do it the once in HP, because of an actor's death. To recast over money issues? Terrible! I know it's Hollywood, but can we keep this a little sacred, and not sacrifice quality to the great money gods?!
But overall, I am pleased, haha!

I'm so happy he will be back for Order of the Phenoix. In the 4th book they had Sirius come to Hogwarts and he was with Harry after Cedric had died. I was suprised that they didn't have in more in the 4th movie.

Finally! goodness why does he have to keep it long...? i understand him but like what it said Sirius is the key character in book 5 that almost destroy harry in the end...so he has to be there and there wont be any actor who can play the role except him...so thank you Gary!im sure it will be a wonderful & unforgetable part for him...

my affections aside, I have to agree about switching actors mid-series. There are other characters that would possibly benefit from recasting, but I think I would probably get grumpy about them being different heh.
