CBBC has posted a story about the excerpt which may seem a bit late on the uptake but also tries to confirm it's origin. Article: Confirmation: Excerpt from JK site was from HBP CBBC Newsround has only just picked up on the news of that excerpt found on her website ( JKR) a few weeks ago.
However, it does look like they're confirming that it does in fact come from the 6th book, Half-Blood Prince. Quote: If they cracked the code, the safe opened and there was a passage from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.
Several newspapers are carrying reports of the stunt, but the passage has now vanished from JK's site.

i dunno still seems very wishy washy to me. Did they get this info from JK/ surely they would have said if they did. i think its more likely a cut from the book, if its from HBP at all

In the last several years the CBBC Newsround has been very good source about Rowling and HP news. They seem to confirm the rumors to the 10th degree with her before publishing them on the website at least. It's one of several places I check for HP news every day. I would say if CBBC says it was really a JK Rowling blurp about HBP then it most likely is just that. | |

I think it might have been a description of either Godric Gryffindor, HBP, or the new DADA teacher. I don't think she's going to introduce any more new characters.
Then again, I don't know if she would realize such important information so early unless she thinks we'll over look it. But she should know better than that by now.

I'm surprised it took them so long to mention it, because it was obvious to me that the excerpt was genuine, afterall, its so JK Rowling. i was looking at Ceefax on BBC1 this morning and on page 505 they have only revealed the 1st line.
"he looked rather like a old lion"
i suppose that is a description of godric gryffindor and maybe he was a animagi & can turn into a lion?

It was kinda obvious the excerpt was from book 6, but its good they confirmed it anyway.
Maybe it describes the new DADA teacher, or that new character (Mc something) that Jo talked about putting in because she liked the name.
Its waaaay too early to be thinkin who it is and expect it to be right, or even close.

I was there the day the 'Do Not disturb' sign dissapeared again. I opened the door, found the light, and opened the safe. Below is the exact excerpt from HBP that was found there.
