Composer Conrad Pope talks involvement in Deathly Hallows: Part I musical score

Composer Conrad Pope updated his official Facebook on August 14, 2010 and again yesterday about his involvement in the creation of the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I score, which is currently being created by Alexandre Desplat.

Pope announced his orchestration of the score here, two weeks ago:

Quote:

Am now in London, beginning orchestration on Harry Potter 7 for the ever-inventive Alexandre Desplat. Settling into the Sir Francis Goldshmidt rooms (yes, that IS the proper spelling) at Home House, Portman Square. (In my family however, these rooms are referred to as the LORD BROUCEK Suite—thanks, Paul). Looking forward to my fourth outing on Potter.
Pope updated yesterday, given a few teasers about the music and Harry's plights and flights in the first half of the Deathly Hallows films.

Quote:

Working on Alexandre Desplat's new score for the next "Potter". Exciting, vigorous music! Harry flies, fights and conjures. All accompanied by the distinctive, definitely non-generic voice of Desplat. Those who love melodies, harmonies and emotions in their film scores should be pleased. Reminds one of the old days. Stay tuned.
There is no set release date for the Deathly Hallows: Part I soundtrack; we will update as soon as confirmation has been announced by Warner Bros. Thanks to UHP for the tip.

Sounds awesome! I hope the soundtrack is as good as The Girl with a Pearl Earring; that one was great. :D

You should! This guy's helped orchestrate A LOT of John Williams scores, including the first three Harry Potter films. And just in case you don't know exactly what orchestration is, it means that he helps the composer choose which instruments should play on each tune, like the trumpets for the Quidditch music or the medieval instruments for "Prisoner of Azkaban". Always crucial to providing a great sound for the movie! :)

The music is always beautiful! I only own the soundtrack for the first and third film, however.

His enthusiasm about the score brings me both excitement and relief. I really hope it's brilliant enough to more than satisfy my expectations.

I expect the previews for each piece to either be released during late September or early October. The ones that are 30 seconds long. :)

I bet it is awesome! ^_^

Very interesting! Though I guess we can't expect the score to sound like Williams, but maybe Williams-esque in the instruments he chooses for various themes?

I'm intrigued to know one of the guys involved with the first 3 scores is involved with this one for the first time since.

Yus!!! Conrad Pope is amazing, he has worked on so many great scores and with some of the best people in the branch! With John Williams (Harry Potter 1-3, Star Wars 1-3, Jurassic Park 1+2, Memoirs of a Geisha, Schindler's List, Munich, Indiana Jones 4, Nixon, AI, Catch Me If You Can, Sabrina, War of the World + the upcoming Tintin), Danny Elfman (Sleepy Hollow, The Wolfman, Flubber), Alan Silvestri (The Polar Express, Night at the Museum, A Christmas Carol, Stuart Little), Hans Zimmer (Pirates of the Caribbean, Muppet Treasure Island), James Newton Howard (King Kong, Peter Pan), Jerry Goldsmith (Looney Tunes: Back in Action) and of course Alexandre Desplat (The Golden Compass, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Julie & Julia and the upcoming The Tree of Life AND Harry Potter =D) - probably why he's coming back!
I'm excited! =D
