MILLIONAIRE author JK Rowling has won permission to install CCTV cameras at her Morningside home - but planning chiefs have banned her from filming her neighbours.
William and Catherine Brotherston, who live next door, had objected to the five-camera surveillance system, claiming they and visitors to their house would be viewed and recorded.
Now Edinburgh City Council has approved the application to install the £50,000 security cameras, which will be disguised as lamps attached to the outside of the house.
But the Harry Potter author and her husband, Dr Neil Murray, have been told must monitor only their property. And they must explain in detail how they will make sure the cameras cannot be used to spy on their neighbours.
Glen Wade, of architects Dignan Read Dewar, who submitted the application for Ms Rowling, said: "I can understand why the neighbours are not happy, but there isn’t going to be any intrusion.
"Planning permission has been granted on condition that the cameras only record the property and neighbouring properties will be blocked out."
