| | | Church backs Potter
Welsh Potter fan, Charlotte Church, has defended the novels against condemnation over the theme of witchcraft. Her defence is in response to the news that the new Pope doesn't approve of Harry Potter. Quote:
Potter fan Charlotte Church has said that even though she is Catholic she doesn't like the new Pope because he thinks Harry is a sinister influence. She told a paper: "If he bothered to sit down and read it he'd understand the morals of it."

Cool go Charlotte, I used to hate her but I guess she isn't that bad. She must be brave, not many people would stand up to the pope.

Oh wow... Charlotte Church is one to talk with her drinking adn washing away a fortune...
I'm not anti-Potter (would I even be here if I were?) but there's no need to be rude about it. Just because someone had different opinions, doesn't mean everything else he does it totally unlawful.

Im christian and I love Jk Rowling stories about Harry Potter. I think that's good for the children that their imagination grow(and fot the young and adult too ). I think that we live in a world full of violence and travel to Harry Potter's world is a good terapy. I desagree with all that people who thinks that the Pope is the voice of God (I dont want to offend anyone) because everybody knows the God give us the free will to select what's good and what's bad and nobody in this world (including the Pope) can take away that (the free will) from us. So... smile... anyway everybody is a world and mine is beautiful | |

I love it when they're smart enough to say that. That's my biggest beef. They never sit down to read them! The always just see the "magic" and assume it's evil!

Who says the Pope didn't read them? He just says these things so openly because the people have to see that he's actually doing something; to show the people that as much as the late Pope was great and all that, he wishes to do so as well.
I'm not agreeing with him here, because I deeply love the Harry Potter books, but the thing is that they're just that- books for people of all ages to dwell on, to learn, and to inspire them to make their life a better way to live.
Plus, since Witchcraft goes against what the church said, haven't they noticed that religion isn't mentioned once in the books? It has joined so many people together. I mean, some even met on the Internet and got married for life....so really, they shouldn't just look at the bad side of things.

Because if he read them he'd know they're not 'evil' nor do they promote evil, witchcraft or other religions. Quote:

Again they don't read them. Simple as that. They don't ever mention the other things that have wizardry and the such in them and call them 'evil'. They only started with HP because it's popular. They also would know that they celebrate Christmas and Easter. They would know that the themes of the book include friendship, loyality, bravery... all the morals that they're always trying to teach.

Yes, I agree with Tao. I'm sure they haven't read them. I mean, I'm a Christian(not Catholic) and I see nothing wrong with the books. Most of the witchcraft in it was made up by JK herself and she's not a witch or anything. And they're not 'promoting' witchcraft. It's just a story about good vs. evil. Okay, try taking the magic away and see how interesting you find it. Anyways, they did the same thing when Poke'mon was popular!

He isn't God or a dictator, so in my opinion, anyone standing up to him isn't doing an extraordinary thing. But I think he should read it before he pans it.

yea...so...i love how the pope condemns potter and everyone feels as though they have to be immensly brave to speak against him. I hope i'm not offending anyone - i really dont mean to but for me, the pope is human and its just his opinion - which i have to point out is really closeminded atleast i think. Why condemn something that has given children and adults alike such joy and amusement and taught them some great lessons in life. Has there been even one - even one person who's used harry potter to hurt someonelse or commit som sort of evil?!...because if there is..someone please let me know because as far as my knowledge goes - jk rowling and the harry potter series has brought nothing but joy and laughter and morals to the lives of many (including my own - i cant imagine not reading those books - i luv them) and those who fight against it are the ones who should be condemned. thats just how i feel |
