| | | Chris Rankin reviews HBP
Chris Rankin who play Percy Weasley in the movies has reviewed HBP for the BBC. Quote:
This is definitely the darkest and most sinister of the Harry Potter series to date and I loved it all.
JK Rowling has this clever way of making very important things happen without the reader realising they've taken place until the end, when the significance of it all sinks in.
I very much liked the development of the main three protagonists from stroppy teenagers in The Order of the Phoenix to young adults in this latest book.
Quote:
It twists and turns through pathos, comedy, love, hate, dark and light, tragedy, horror and leaves the reader wanting more.
Also reviewing the book for the BBC was a Harry Potter Hater, Rob Winder, who says "The dialogue is clunky and there are no surprises in the narrative ". He also says the books show an 'out-dated' image of Britain; it seems this critic has failed to realise the books are actually set in the 1990's.
Philip Ardagh, a chlidrens author who says about HBP "it has some cracking moments and has left some questions enticingly unanswered."

Well said by Chris. I'm still hoping for more air time for him. Not too much of it for him in HBP, but I'm glad he likes it all the same. It's nice to know that he's not blinded by personal thoughts, i.e. movie role opportunity.
Rob Winder - I know that's immature of me... but there you go. I'm not from Bitain though, so I can't know how outdated the book sounds - Emma?

I think what he's referring is to the lack of modern features in the stories. But they are set in the 90's, something he's neglected to accept. Also, the magical world is different to the muggle so it's going to be different. But that's just my opinion.

Shows you how much the critic knows.
Ohhhhhh that is funny that it is set in the 90's I was wondering about that. (I don't pay to much attention.) Why don't they do it with the time line of now? And how do we know they are in the 90's?

Nearly Headless Nick tells us he died in 1492,in CoS. In CoS he's celebrating his 500th deathday. So, CoS is set in 1992.

| I think it's great to see that the actors themselves are fans too. I wonder what he thought about Percy? I also wonder if any of the other actors have read it yet and what they thought about it.

Yeah, Percy is being a major git. I mean, even Fudge finally accepted that Harry and Dumbledore were telling the truth, so why can't he? Is he that determined not to admit he's fallible?

I particularly agree with his view on JK being able to have important events occur without their full value being realized until the end.
