Charlie Weasley may not be in the GoF film - new interview with the actor Summary:
The Burrow has a great interview with Alex Crockford, who played Charlie Weasley in PoA. Article: Charlie Weasley may not be in the GoF film The Burrow now has an interview with Alex Crockford, the young actor who stood in as Charlie Weasley in the Prisoner of Azkaban film. He also mentions how the current shooting script for Goblet of Fire, does not feature Charlie Weasley and that as he is only mentioned in passing, he probably wont feature in OotP, if that gets adapted to screen, either.
The interview can be read here. The Burrow exclusive also has some new images of the actor which feature on the same page. Quote: I'm twenty years old and I live in Sevenoaks, Kent, although I currently spend half my time studying Law at Cambridge, I've just finished my first year there and it's more fun than it probably sounds. Quote: How did you get the part of Charlie Weasley?
It's the first job I ever got based solely on my looks rather than talent, as it happens! I think I was virtually the only redhead of about the right age on their books (actually I'm technically a couple of years too young but I'm reliably informed that I can pass for older.) There were about 8 of us, all red-haired, and they took some photos of us, then lined us up against a wall (it was a bit like one of those prison line-ups, only with ginger people) and got Rupert Grint to come in so they could see which of us looked the most like potential older brothers. Quote: I'm told that his (Richard Fish's - Bill Weasley actor's) legs feature on the DVD of "About a Boy", and if that isn't a claim to fame I don't know what is. Alex on working with the actors: Quote: Of course I felt extremely privileged to be working with the likes of Julie Walters (who was very maternal) and Mark Williams (who was also very entertaining), plus I got to share a make up room with Fiona Shaw! They had to give me some sunburn, which in retrospect I don't understand as you can't see it in the finished film, but I suppose it's all about authenticity! Apparently Alan Rickman and Gary Oldman were on the set the day after me, and they're two of my favourite actors of all time so if I'd known I would probably have tried to repeatedly mess up the takes so I could come back the next day, although the flaws in that plan are a) they probably would have sacked me, and B) there's only so much you can do wrong with a wave. But it's frustrating, as I kept going into cinemas before the film was released and seeing the big poster of Sirius Black saying "Have you seen this wizard?" and of course I had to say no, but if I'd been on the set a day later I would have done!
I think the filmmakers paid about six times as much for him (Scabbers) as they paid for me, and it was at the centre of the photo so Alfonso was giving it all the attention, and I was amused to hear Mark Williams behind me muttering "Anyone would think the bloody rat was the most important thing in the film!" Quote: What are your chances of returning for 'Goblet of Fire'?
Minimal, I'm afraid. I got a letter from one of the director's assistants telling me that Charlie isn't featured in the current shooting script, but that he would let me know if he appears in a later draft or in Order of the Phoenix. Alex on Chris Rankin (Percy Weasley): Quote: Of course my resemblance to Chris Rankin has been noted before, and I always said that they must have lined up photos of all the auditionees and picked the wrong one! But in retrospect I'm glad Chris got it as my resemblance to him was possibly instrumental in getting me the part of Charlie later on. Quote: It wasn't bad at all considering it was the first extra role I ever got, playing a named character in a Harry Potter film, so I'm certainly not complaining, although anyone who wants to start an online petition demanding that Charlie be put back in the GOF script has my blessing! Although now they'll probably think I'm a troublemaker and replace me with a proper actor. Never mind! Thanks to The Burrow for this amazing interview, head over to their fantastic site to read the whole interview in full and see the images they have. Thanks also to TLC for the heads up about this. |

Well, I guess he doesn't play that big of a part. Lets see, there's the World Cup, the tent scene, and the burrow. That's all I think. I hope they decide to add him in.

poor guy.lol  I would have liked to see all the Weasleys in it, I mean if the Gryffindor World Cup is in then surely they all need to be there. Seeing him in a few shots would be better than none at all.
I also feel sorry for him Karen, I'll sign the petition! That day when he and Molly visit is when he's doing the final task so isn't that important, 'cos they watch him...

Aw I like Charlie... they should at least just get him in one shot of the movie... at least just a passing shot. Hopefully they decide to just throw him in somewhere... but that's doubtful. If he isn't in GoF then hopefully he'll make it OotP somewhere.

They could have at least used him as an extra in GoF!

that's kind of depressing.....i think they should have all of the necessary characters in all of the movies-otherwise the fans(like myself)won't feel that is was up to standards. i hope they put in all of the characters needed for each and every movie. ^^ive also always wanted to see what the eldest weasly brothers look like

That's really a shame. I know Charlie doesn't have a huge part in the book, but I would like to see the entire Weasley family. I don't see why they can't atleast leave in the part where Hagrid shows Harry and Madame Maxime the dragons...Oh well.

I really wish charlie would atleast have a part when Hagrid is showing the dragons to Harry, espically since he's not even in OOTP. also, i hope Bill is somewhere in there--hes suppose to be cute!

I wish i would see all the Weasleys together, that should be a sight. It's just sad they take out funny parts from the books. Well, at least i'm sure the movie will be nice either way

he didn't have much of a role . but i think his presence would be important at the beginning where harry actually meets them and then a bit in the tri wizard tournament.

I don't like the guy they have casted for Charlie, he couldn't look less like I pictured him - but I wanted Charlie in the films! Why can't they keep my favorites parts in the movies, for crying out loud. They change everything I look forward to! Like the Marauders in PoA!
::goes off in crazy rant, breaks furniture, puts foot through computer screen, tears pictures off the wall:: Sorry - feeling a bit emotional. It's late.

There is also the scene where Hagrid takes Olympia and Harry to see the dragons used in Task 1 of Triwizard. I am sorry to see that scene cut but GoF is a huge book to film. I guess somethings have got to go.

they should keep ALL the weasleys for the quidditch world cup!!! and what does it mean IF OoTP is adapted to screen? if?? it has to be, its such a great sad book!! neway to stay on subject. yeah theyre changing a lot for GoF cuz its really long and all but charlie is mentioned and he does appear before the 1st task. if they dont have him tell hagrid about the dragons who will? well maybe they could just have hagrid say that charlie told him about them and there would be no need for a visible charlie but its not the same.

Well, theres plenty of other ways for Harry to find out about the draons, so they could replace Charlie very easily, but i still want him in!

The guy who's gonna play charlie is cool...but they could have kept his part in GOF.It would be nice to see all the weasley members together. But how can they cut charlie's part in the movie?I mean charlie brings dragons for the first task is'nt he?He even forbids hagrid to show them to Maxime. But anyway...

Even though he doesn't have a huge role, it'd still be nice to see him in the movie.
