| | | Canada can't cope with Potter The Winnipeg Sun reports that Potter has become too big for Canada, so much so that printers in the country wont be handling the sixth novel. Quote:
"Harry Potter has outgrown us," said Curwin Friesen, president and chief operating officer of Friesens Corporation, which has printed the last five books in the series.
Quote:
"They'll probably have to dedicate an entire plant (to the run) for between seven to nine weeks," said Friesen, who still has every intention of reading the upcoming addition to the series. "A small printer just can't dedicate their entire facility to that."

Well not Canada specifically, but the plants in Canada. So thus Canada can't print them anymore.

Perhap the US printers will help out our northern neighbors. I hope so. I would hate to think of Canada not having the book on time.

That's weird. How possibly can that be? I feel sympathy for you Canadians. Yea, I think the US publishers should help out the Canadian printers. I mean, I agree with you lot who said the US should help out! The potter books should all be out on time to the designated countries!

Thanks, guys. Remember though, this is Potter. We Canadians won't be left out, trust me. The article said that a single American printing company will print our version. Lucky them; that would be a sweet contract! Having worked in a print shop before (as a printing press operator) I can vouch for the time element. A small company like Friesens Corporation just can't handle a million copies as well as their other clients, and cannot contract out the work to a bunch of other print shops because of the security issue. (Better that it all be printed in one place where security can be tightly monitored.) I'm sure that this change won't affect our ability to get books on the release date.

The problem with the Canadian economy is that it can't support a huge operation like some of the printing houses in the U.K or U.S.A because of the tax laws and red tape like that. The small operations that we do have are being flooded when a book like one in the Potter series is made. Due to the fact that they are in such small supply, their client base is very large, and it would't do to relegate one printing house to just the printing of the Harry Potter series. I applaud the U.S because they always seem to help us out.
Thank You, U.S.A!!!

This is weird. They didn't have the same problem for the last books. I hope we'll get our books in time.

canada has a population of 33 million as opposed to 300 million in the US. it's not surprising that they don't have enough resources to print a big number of books.
