| | |  Bloomsbury and Harry Potter Sales
Bloomsbury PLC, the Harry Potter books British publisher, announced earlier today that advance orders, for Deathly Hallows, are 17 percent ahead of the pre-orders for Half-Blood Prince and that it will launch a box-set of all seven books about the teenage wizard on 1 October. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is the seventh and final installment of JK Rowling's series about the world of a boy wizard.
The global success of the Harry Potter books has generated bumper profits for Bloomsbury, but the company is now under pressure to find new hit publications as the Potter series draws to a close. Quote:
The seventh book in the series about the boy magician, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," will be published on July 21. Much of Bloomsbury's profit in recent years has been derived from the series, which has been translated into a number of different languages, including Chinese. The Harry Potter books have been translated into 65 languages and sold more than 325 million copies since the first volume, "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone," was published in 1997.
The company has so far been able to capitalize on the success of the Harry Potter via different media formats including movies, computer games and other merchandise even in years without a new release by issuing paperback editions or new language imprints. The paperback version of Deathly Hallows will follow approximately one year after the hardback issue, roughly July 2008. Other language versions will also extend Bloomsbury's revenues of the series in the years to come as will new readers as the children of tomorrow discover Harry's magical world.
