This wasn't a true poll though, only 750,000 people voted and there are 56 million in the UK

I reckon some cheating went on, I rang up to vote and they had closed the polls early when on TV they said the polls would be open for another couple of hours.

They only opened the polls during the show, and closed them at 10:25pm. I voted LOTR (of course - love it) but I was pleasantly surprised with the result.
In the run-up to last night's final, I had been voting His Dark Materials, since LOTR was practically a shoe in the top spot. HDM was the outsider, and I felt like Hitchhiker's Guide would get a lot of sci-fi fans - a large market when you think about it. Haven't read it myself, but I'm going to.

In the end, it was always going to be down to LOTR and P&P. P&P was the critics' and smart peoples' favourite, LOTR was the ring-nuts' and critic-haters' favourite. The question was, who was more passionate? Tolkien fans are known for putting up violent arguments and beat P&P by about 35,000 votes .
Weird thing is, last night:
I was rereading LOTR (in honour of the ROTK movie)
My brother was reading GOF (cos I made him)
My mother was reading HDM (cos I lent her it)
My friend was reading Hitchhiker's Guide (and I'm gonna ask for a lend of it)
My English class is reading P&P (which I should be doing an essay on now)

Freaky, huh?

While I would have loved to have Harry Potter win, a least LotR won! What was the rest of the books? Like the order... or the other books?
