| | |  ASDA low price Deathly Hallows paperback impact
Most Harry Potter fans bought their copies of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows at ASDA thanks to their offering the paperback book at £1 a copy. However, by pushing their prices so low, the supermarket made a loss of £3.50 per book which Philip Stone, the charts editor at The Bookseller claims lost them £100,000 every week.
However, despite their losses, eight out of ten Harry Potter fans purchased their copies of the book from ASDA. In addition to that, the second lowest price offered for the book was by ASDA online, at £6.59 (which includes the delivery charges) which is still much cheaper than the price set by Amazon.
There is as of yet no release date for the seventh paperback in the States.

I'm a bit split on this.
It's great that they are lowering prices (although, like mentioned before, I do think they ought to concentrate on other items before books).
However, it does put small book companies/ store out of the running. They aren't able to compete with prices like that. It's just another example of supermarkets taking over all corners of the market and weeding out the small independent stores. | |

People are sort of missing the big picture on this one. While Potter fans are steaming into Asda to buy the book at a £1 a go, they are in the store! How often do you go into a store and only buy what you went in for?
The influx of people who might not usually shop there will more than make up for their loses as people will buy other stuff. Its all about bringing in people as new customers. Which they have done really well as now people who don't shop at Asda are now heading down there just to get the book. Where I am sure there are lots of flashy banners for all sorts of other wonderful deals to lure people in by |
