| | | Alfonso Cuaron up for an oscar? Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban director, Alfonso Cuaron, has been featured, together with Dan Radcliffe, in an Academy Award consideration advert from the Hollywood Reporter for the award of 'Best Director'.
The ad features a picture of Alfonso directing Dan in the Care of Magical Creatures lesson scene and features to following appraisals from different critics; Quote:
"Director Alfonso Cuaron scores a triumph by bringing lyricism, laughs and dark magic to the party." Peter Travers, Rolling Stone Quote:
"Cuaron is a visionary and crafty storyteller who rewards your patience with pure feeling, developing wit, grace and artistry." Wesley Morris, Boston Globe Quote:
"Directed with immense flair by Alfons Cuaron, the film is darker and grittier than its two predecessors. He strikes exactly the right balance between scariness and magic and makes the magic that much more magical." Lou Lumenick, New York Post |

It's good news that Alfonso Cuaron is considered for nominations at the Academy Awards. Critics say that it's an open year today, because there were no LoTR's, in other words, no big big movies were shown this year. It will be a big accomplishment for the movies if he did get nominated, and won.
Thanks for the info! :sorcerer:

That's awesome. I would love to see him get nominated.
But reality strikes and it is just not very likely.
Thanks for the awesome scan though Emma!

Yes as a director he's brilliant. PoA may not be what people expected but he did his best with a poor (in my opinion) script.
It's a very pretty scan, at least he has that even if he doesn't get nominated. I cant see him winning the award at all. But he should get a #Best Director' gong sometime in his life/career, for sure.

I'm not a fan of Steve Kloves' Potter screenplays - I think it's mainly because he's American and he doesn't understand the quirks of British language (and the fact that he puts the wrong words in...)
Alfonso Cuaron however is a wonderful director... The things he gets his cinematographers to do is breath taking and he always goes for the shots that most directors wouldn't consider... No matter how many times I watch PoA i'm stunned at how beautiful it is... Whether he gets an Oscar or not doesn't really matter as long as we acknowledge his genius, but he certainly deserves one!!

^ Yes, I mean, he's the genius who realised Hogwarts is in Scotland not bloody England! The scenery was spot on, Hogwarts had more of a 'real' feel, geographically it was better because you could see where everything lead to, like Hogwarts and the Grounds was a whole as opposed to different sets and locations which made PS & CoS lack in visual continuity.
And don't get me started on the Buckbeak scenes *dies from the beauty* Especially that flying scene. *goosebumps*

But he should get a #Best Director' gong sometime in his life/career, for sure. Too right! Cuaron really is very good, he's got style, visual style something I would say most Hollywood directors don't have anymore. It's readily apparent in his work. He should get nominated and he should win, though the latter isn't as likely. *wipes his eyes* Viva Cuaron! And I totally loved PoA! And you're totally right about the script. *crosses fingers for GoF* If Hermione asks Krum to the ball I'm sooooo walking out of the theater... |

That would be so well deserved. Seriously to transform a book into a movie in that magnitude and succeed, the thought is mindblowing |

^ it was different from the book and I do still have minor (ok in some cases major) issues with some things... but it's always pushed out of my mind by the sheer beauty of the film - i want to make films like that! (Unfortunately it's just not possible on the budget of a student filmmaker! lol!)
