Post Alfonso Cuaron denies 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' directing rumours

Oscar-winning director Alfonso Cuaron recently stated in a new interview that he had no interest in coming back to the Harry Potter world, where he was strongly rumoured to helm the first of the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them films, set for release in November 2016.

Speaking to international press EFE, Cuaron stated:

Quote:
U.S. media reported in recent days the possibility that Cuaron might direct the Harry Potter spinoff saga "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," which is currently in the pre-production phase.

"It was a very beautiful experience for me. I have a lot of love for that universe and I tremendously admire J.K. Rowling, but today, for the present, projects based around lots of visual effects don't attract me. I'm coming out of a five-year process of doing visual effects and now I sort of want to clean my palate of that a little bit," the director said.
Cuaron also clarified the recent rumours that he may direct the prequel to Stephen King's The Shining, stating he has no knowledge of the subject.

Quote:
Cuaron said he is "a big fan" of the film directed by Stanley Kubrick in 1980, but he said that he's not up to date with the news saying that he would be a possible director for the prequel, which will be called "The Overlook Hotel."

I'm glad he won't be directing, to be perfectly honest. Never understood how he could leave out the Marauders Map story when it would have only taken ten seconds, while at the same time adding in so much stuff of his own. There are so many better choices like Chris Columbus, Peter Jackson, or David Yates.

hmmmmmmm..... hmmm hmm hmmmm.....

did Nikki Finke muddle his chances of nailing the deal by outing him early? or is he trying to sweeten the deal even further by giving the usual I'm-too-busy/tired/bored lip service that directors usually give to make studios dump a boat-load of cash on their front yard?

i mean really, him being a contender for the job is kinda no-brainer: he's BFFs with Heyman, he's WB's new golden boy, he's had HP experience, his film sched is clear.... i was half expecting him to be announced as legit already.

November 2016 seems like a long ways away but in film production thats just kinda barely enough wiggle room, specially for a production of this size. theres a LOT of pre production work that has to be done first even before they could start shooting a single frame of the movie. and i'm not even gonna say anything about the post-production work and then the marketing.

Aww. That's too bad, but I understand what he's saying about getting away from films with so many visual effects. Good for him.

How cool would it be if Peter Jackson directed it, though?!
