Alexandre Desplat confirms starting work on Deathly Hallows: Part II musical score

Composer Alexandre Desplat, who received an Academy Award nomination this morning for The King's Speech score, briefly discussed how pleased he was to receive the Oscar recognition, and the next project he's begun work on: the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II score.

"Tom [Hooper, the director] offered me the music prior to starting 'Harry Potter.' I just had a window before starting 'Deathly Hallows,' and I did not hesitate a second. This movie is a gem -- it's one of the rare movies that comes towards you that...talks about friendship and love and about a man who's suffering and struggling with his handicap. It's not a movie where the music cries out and blasts your ears. It's deeper than that and that's also what I like, to write something really deep and emotional. I'm very proud to have done that with Tom.

"I'm just starting the last episode of 'Harry Potter.' I did the penultimate, and now I'm just starting on the last one, which will be huge fireworks -- it will be a lot of energy to give away. That's my next main big thing."

That's awesome! I love movie scores and the music for The King's Speech was indeed, brilliant.

I would have preferred John Williams, but I like Desplat's work.

Well he did fantastic on Deathly Hallows Part I and I'm sure the last one will be even better :D...I'm so not emotionally prepared for the influx of Deathly Hallows II news, though :lol: I'm gonna be such a wreck on July 15 :(

I absolutely LOVED the composition for Part 1 and I am just as excited to see what he comes up with in Part 2 :)

But yea, he's just starting?!? That's crazy! Do they usually not start until 6 months before the release?

I love the music for DH1 it was brilliant. Some of the best music in the HP films. I really do miss Williams, who did it for so long. :yes:

Alexandre is so talented and I love his work especially on the twilight saga: new moon and of course harry potter and the deathly hallows part 1. :D I hope you will do a fantastic job and i am sure you will :D

His music was great in the DH part 1, but I'll miss Williams. Especially Hedwig's Theme... :P

I loved his work in DH1 so much that I bought the soundtrack - the first HP one I ever bought :loved: I cannot wait to hear what he does for DH2 ^_^

I miss Williams too but I also agree that the music in part1 was fantastic! I'm so excited to hear what he'll come up with for the next one. I'd like the music to be quite dramatic and emotional. For me the music is always very important in films. In DH2 there are so many big things happening that the music just can't be too lame. But i trust Alexandre Desplat :)

This is the fourth time! He was nominated for "Benjamin Button", "The Queen", "Fantastic Mr. Fox" and now "The King\'s Speech".
I REALLY hope he gets a nomination next year for DH II because I already know his score is gonna be EPIC!
