In a new interview with the Brisbane Times Alan Rickman has briefly spoken about his opinion on Severus Snape - something which is quite a rarity given his reluctance to discuss Harry Potter. Quote:
In all this time, we have barely mentioned Harry Potter. Rickman always avoids it - "I don't want to play with something that has to do with children's innocence" is a typical riposte - but it is the boy wizard who has given him enough leverage to get films such as Snow Cake made. And, of course, he likes playing the professor of potions, whom he sees as "quite an insecure person, always longing to be something else that people will really respect".
"At this point, it's good to have done something for children," he says. "I like the fact it's persuaded children to read. If I'm going to be working when I'm 80, I need them as my audience."

Rickman always struck me as a really good guy. It's nice that he thinks about his audience and enjoys his job.
And... well, of course Snape is insecure, lol. I never knew that wasn't a given.

Well he was the one actor who was given extensive character notes by J.K.Rowling, so pre- Deathly Hallows it would have been easier to just not go there in interviews.

I kind of like that he doesn't normally speak of Snape and HP in general. It makes it easier to see him as other characters I think, and it keeps up Snape's hard edge in the films. It's like how Jason Isaacs says he doesn't reply to fan mail so that kids still think he's a cold guy like Lucius, | |

Hes cool...alot of people agree that hes one of the best actors in the movies....i cant forget him from the PoA commercials, but ill definitely watch him when hes 80. Hes just that good!
