Amazon has announced that they've taken over 1 million pre-orders for Deathly Hallows, however shareholders were told yesterday that despite this, the company won't be making a profit from the novel.
This is due to the $17 discount the site is offering, in conjunction with free shipping and a guaranteed on-time delivery.
Actually, they already guaranteed everyone who preordered the lowest advertised price. In the agreement between Amazon and customers, it says that whichever price is the absolute lowest for the book between the time that the customer preorders and the time that the book is shipped, is what the customer will pay. That means that if they raise the price of the book for everyone else, the people who preordered already are still going to pay the same amount.
