Default A Strand of Hope - Sa16+

Hey everyone! It's me Tailz (or whatever other modification you got) and I'm bringing to you my second FF. This FF is based on my current school character, Christian Miles, and his current little crush, Mallory Moonstone who is played by the wonderful Zyra (aka griffin_girl)!

We recently got the chance to rp them as adults and we got this crazy and INSANE idea to put it all into an FF for you guys to see. So I'm the person writing the story but Zyra is my lifeline! Without her, there would be no story. Honestly.

Here's just a little bit of background information. At the end of Christian's seventh year that's when everything between him and Mallory went down the drain. They were communicating and what not. So five years later, they finally meet together when they both move to the same town. And yeah, that's about all I can tell you know. XD So let's get the story started!

-Thank you to Niky for reading over. =)

[x]Chapter 1: His life[x]

One look at his life and you would think it was perfect. Tell him that, however, and he would think that you were being sarcastic. To him, in fact, his life was nothing. So, what the heck is so wrong?

He’s got the job that he’s always dreamed of having; he’s playing soccer for an English premiership league and had become well known amongst all the lands. He had a loving mother, who could go wrong there? He had fans and had graced at least a dozen soccer magazine covers. He had money; he was famous.

But still, no matter, not all the money in the world or even his mother’s love could fill the deep void that he had. But why did he have this void? What was missing? Could it be the fact that he had no father? No, that wasn’t it…he had found that Professor Fabian Clark had filled that void quite nicely. Fabian was protective and (even though he dared not show it to Fabian) he learned a few lessons. Competing with Fabian had also taught him how to fight for what he wanted. So what’s missing? Let’s turn back the clock and see.

His final school year had just ended and was on a depressing final train ride back home. He pretty much had his arm around her the whole time, while he peered out the window, focusing on the trees flying by. His intent was to not look at her face; he didn’t think he would be able to stand it. His heart plummeted to somewhere around his stomach as he felt the train start to slow down. No...It can’t be over.

Then they stood on platform nine and three quarters. She was in his arms one last time, her face buried into chest, his head resting on top of hers. His eyes were closed and his mind was completely oblivious to the fact that her father was shooting dagger looks at him and their mothers were planning their next shopping trip and which area they were going to wipe out next. He wasn’t even in a mood to make a crack about sending a warning to local stores, telling them to keep an eye out for the dynamic mothers.

They finally parted as both sides of parents said that it was time to go and they let go willingly. She was going to be going back to Hogwarts the next year and he was not. He would be going to a soccer camp in the summer in order to get the shot of being apart of a professional team. Her father had made plans for her whole summer too, they wouldn’t be able to hang out. On top of it all, he had to blend in with the muggle world…what would people think if he walked around carrying an owl? You can definitely say good bye to that offer.

There was the good ‘ol snail mail. He could have still written to her, but for some reason, there was something holding him back. Everyday he tried to sit down and write the letter to her, but everyday resulted in a small mountain of crumpled paper and he abandoned the attempt. But every time that he did so, he felt like someone had taken a shot at his heart. A pain that seemed to grow, as if piece by piece it was being pulled out. It was no wonder, she was his heart and soul and every time he neglected to write, he was pushing her away.

Two years full of pain, regret, a couple sprained ankles, and grueling training sessions later, he had finally made it. He was running out onto the pitch amidst the roar of the home crowd. It was his first match and there was quite the buzz going around that he could possibly be the man to take the team to the top of the league. There was one last thought about her and how he wished that she was sitting in that crowd, like she had in Spain, but instead, this time, she was going to be watching him. She probably didn’t even know of how he was doing and because of his stupidity, she never would.

A whistle blew and began the game. The opposing team was welcoming him with open arms and dangerous tackles. 60 minutes into the game and he was picking himself up off the ground for the seventh time, his muscles screaming in agony, begging him to stop. Baring his cleats into the ground, they entered into the last 5 minutes of the game.

It was tied at one goal a piece and both teams weren’t ready to call it game. They were going to fight to the end, only the weak let the game stand at a tie. And that’s when it happened. He received a pass from one of his teammates and he broke ahead. There was a defender coming, he stepped left, but quickly changed direction and cut right, faking out the defender. Getting past, he spotted another defender off to the left making a diving tackle. He just managed to avoid that, the other two defenders were too late and weren’t able to catch up. It was just him and the goalie.

The goalie was rushing out to meet him, this was his chance. The goalie charged and went for the ball; he went for a fake shot and completely psyched out the goalie. Taking the opportunity, he took the real shot, sailing it past the goalie and into the top right corner of the net.

The crowd erupted into a mixture of screams, yells, and cheers. They had won! His teammates were rushing to tackle him and celebrate; the opponents were kicking the ground angered by the loss. After a few pats on the back and a group hug, and they were heading back to the sidelines, ready to celebrate their victory.

He paused in the middle of the pitch and looked to the sky. He wished she was here to see this moment. He closed his eyes and kissed his hand and raised it in a fist to the high clouds. He dedicated his first goal to her.

And she would never know.

Default Chapter Two

[x]Chapter 2: Her Life[x]

She awoke with a start; her heart racing as if she had ran for miles on end. She was lying on her bed, still fully clothed as she had gotten home from work really late the night before and was too tired to get changed. She turned onto her back and peered up at the ceiling, her eyes adjusting to light that poured in past the curtains.

She had had a dream that had involved him, he was there and they were together…happy. Happy? Don’t make her laugh, she was far from happy. She hid it though; she was pretty good at hiding the emotions, especially from her parents. Her parents knew of her sadness though and the father had already made a solemn promise to tear the man who had left his daughter.

It had all started when he had graduated from Hogwarts; he was in the seventh year and her, her sixth. She was going to be returning the next year, but he wouldn’t be there to keep her company. To make matters worse, they wouldn’t be able to see each other over the summer; both had plans that would tie them up the whole time. But, even as she had her face buried into his chest, his sweet scent filling her nostrils, a scent she would miss…a scent she would long for, she knew there was a glimmer of hope and that all was not lost. He would write, he would send her a letter; they wouldn’t be apart…not really.

But the summer had gone by and there wasn’t a word from him. Maybe he was just too busy and he would write…he eventually would. She knew that he wouldn’t ditch her. Throughout her seventh year she went on like normal, everyday peering up and looking for his snowy owl that would bear her the letter telling her that he missed her and how much he wished he could be near her. But everyday she found that she was setting herself up for disappointment, the owl never came, not once that whole year.

But she wasn’t ready to give up. Using a good chunk of her year, she put together a scrapbook. This scrapbook contained every memory that they had experienced together. She sent it off to him for his birthday, praying that he would receive it and maybe then…just then, he would send her a letter back.

More disappointment. He never replied and she didn’t know even if he hadn’t gotten it. But still, her hope never waned. She spent the next summer asking her father everyday if there was mail for her, and everyday he said no. She was sad, her father, however, was furious. Her father went on long rants about how the boy had made friends with his daughter, but then suddenly never talked to her again. Her father knew how much the separation had broken her heart, but he still respected her for living her life.

She went on and obtained a job with the Defense Against the Dark Arts division at the Ministry. She did was she usually did: fenced, taking care of her owls, and any other regular thing she would normally do. Anything where she would be doing something, just to help take away the fact of being alone, but nothing would ever work. When she felt alone, she would think.

And when she thought, she would think of him.

And then came the first word of him.

Her father worked at the ministry in the Misuses of Muggle Artifacts department and they were called to go to a soccer match. Apparently the game had gotten slightly out of hand and a crazed witch fan sent snidgets out onto the field. Chaos had erupted at the sight of these odd new creatures and the game ball had ended up getting punctured. They didn’t know why they were called; the people just said that they were needed.

They brought the ball back to the ministry and brought up a list of the possible owners of the soccer ball. Go figure, it had belonged to the home team of the match and so they got the list of the team roster. Mr. Moonstone looked down the list and stopped at the middle. He read the name four times, just to make sure that he wasn’t losing his mind. But no, it was there…in black ink on white paper.

He called his daughter into the office and showed her the team roster. Her eyes widened in shock as she read the name her father pointed out. At least now she knew that the man was alive, but it still didn’t explain why he wasn’t talking to her.

To her father’s dismay, she burst into question after question, interrogating her father about him. Mr. Moonstone couldn’t help but frown at his daughter; she was unbelievable! 3 years of not hearing one thing from the boy and yet she’s compelled to interrogate and know everything about him. But he held his words and just answered her questions, some better than others.

She went home that night, her mind a buzz, full of thoughts and worries. There had to be a reason why he wouldn’t speak to her. People just didn’t stop talking on there own accord. Well, some did take a vow of silence, but she truly doubted that he was the kind of man to take a vow of silence. The boy couldn’t keep his mouth shut even when his brain had fried.

As she prepared herself for sleep that same night, she tried to push every thought of him out of her mind. She used anything possible; radio…the twittering twits…anything that made noise and shut her away from her thoughts. But once she had slipped into bed, she found that her thoughts had found her again and were enveloping her. They wouldn’t quit.

She thought about him and how much she wished she was with him again. Just a chance. Five minutes…anything, just enough time to hold him and smell his sweet scent. And with that, she turned onto her side and closed her eyes.

And a single tear slid down her face.

*giggles at the new saying* <33

*grabs a tissue from the box* *sniffles* Loved it. Seriously, the descriptions are totally Wow! And I love how she still clung to the hope that she would eventually hear back from him and kept him in her thoughts. Though the underlying theme of agony that she felt when she didn't hear from him, can be seen. Very nice.

Default Chapter 3

[x]Chapter 3: Runaway[x]

The scenery was strange; there was lots of white…and flowers. There were white chairs decorated with elaborate bows and a magnificent archway stood up at the front of the collaboration. The archway itself was decked out in summer flowers, which swayed in the gentle breeze. The wind carried with it the sweet aroma of the flowers, a scent that could intoxicate anyone into relaxation.

There were men in suits and ties and women in long, flowing dresses, dabbing their eyes with linen handkerchiefs and their eye shadow becoming increasingly smudged. His eyes continued to cast around, spotting children in their best clothing, squirming in their seats, whispering every now and then asking when it would be over and their apparent guardians would turn and tell them to be quiet. Over? Where exactly was he and for what to be over?

He looked down and observed himself, he too was wearing his best black suit and his shoes were shined to perfection. He never wore clothes like this, unless he was entering a stadium for a game…or there was something special going on. He looked up and finally saw. It was a wedding, the bride and the groom had pronounced the “I do’s” and the priest had pronounced them to be husband and wife.

He couldn’t help but smile, it was a wedding, you were meant to be happy for the lucky couple. But then the bride turned to the crowd and what he saw made his heart stop and he was finding it increasingly hard to breathe. It was her. She had gotten married to someone other than him. “No…” he whispered and he stood up. Why the heck hadn’t he payed attention and spoken up when the priest had asked for a reason that the two shouldn’t be married!? He would have stood up and shouted to the high heavens!

“NO!” He said it louder, his heart was pounding fast and he looked around wildly. Other men were standing up to try to grab him and attempt to calm him down, but he pulled himself away and tripped over a couple chairs and stumbled about. And all she did was stand there and hold onto her new husband. That was supposed to be him she was holding, he made a lunge forward but another man caught him around the middle and pushed him backwards into another pile of chairs. He fought back while yelling, “NO! Let…me go! MALLORY!” But she was walking away and he made one final attempt to get up, but felt a blow to the side of the head.

“Get off! Come on, just get out of way! MALLORY!”

There was another swing of the pillow and somebody yelling, “DUDE. Shut up!” and Christian was awake. There was sweat running down his face and his heart was beating at an uncontrollable pace. The sheets of the bed were twisted every which way, it was apparent he had thrashed about during the night. His breathing was slightly distorted; it was like he had been through one of the worst training sessions ever. He blinked a couple times and his attacker came into focus.

“Man, what is wrong with you? What are you trying to do? Wake up all of England? I wouldn’t be surprised if you woke up the folks in America,” his hotel roommate held the pillow threateningly in his hand, as if daring Christian to yell again.

“Oh get lost…” Christian mumbled, he sat up and brought his knees to his chest and drilled the palms of his hands into his eyes, rubbing them, trying to erase what he had seen. It was proving to be difficult though, the sight of Mallory in a wedding dress, getting married to someone that wasn’t him was proving to be a little nerve racking. That was the third time this week he had had that dream.

The millionth time in the span of four to five years.

His roommate’s hand lightly released his grip on the pillow and looked at Christian, a frown etched in every part of his face. “What’s up with you? This is the third time you’ve woken me up this week before the crack of dawn. And don’t tell me again that it’s nothing ‘cause now it’s pretty obvious that it is something.”

Christian glared at his roommate, just wishing for the fool to go back to sleep. It wasn’t his problem, so why should he care?

“It’s nothing,” he growled and another whack to the head with the pillow had proven that he had said the wrong answer. “Man, will you stop with that pillow!?” A look of fury had appeared on Christian’s face and it filled every crack and his pink eyes tinted darkly in a dangerous manner.

The roommate sighed and retired back to his bed on the other side of the room. He was tired of Christian’s attitude. He threw the pillow back into its place and layed down on top of the covers. He looked anywhere in the room, but always avoided Christian’s gaze.

“You know, it’s not going to help you if you keep trying to run away from your problem…”

“I’m not running!” Christian spat back.

“You’ve got a funny way of showing it,” the roommate retorted just as fast. “Look, you’ve got to learn to chill out and relax. Word is that coach will bench you if you don’t fix your attitude. We’re three weeks away from championship and I’m pretty darn sure that you don’t want to miss that.” He looked over at Christian, his eyebrows raised.

Christian threw back a reproachful look and then looked away. He knew his roommate was right though; he was messing up his own life and career. He felt his roommate’s gaze upon up, Christian knew the man was wearing a look of victory and Christian hated admitting defeat. They sat in silence for a few minutes; the only sound audible was the rush of the wind against the window and the ticking of the clock.

“So,” his roommate was the first to break the silence. “Who’s this Mallory person?” He added on, in a teasing tone, “Is she like, your girlfriend or something. You sure do yell about her in your sleep a lot, she may as well be…” He chuckled and raised his hands to block a flying pillow sent by Christian.

“You don’t know what you’re talking about. She’s nobody…” he quickly averted his gaze to somewhere else in the room.

“…A nobody…” the roommate repeated, as if it was something hard to comprehend. “So what you’re telling me is that you’re having these dreams and waking me up, for someone who doesn’t exist?”

“I didn’t say that she didn’t exist…”

“So she is a someone! Well that’s good, for a second I thought we were going to have to send you to a psychiatric hospital. Having dreams about a girl who doesn’t exist usually tends to not be a good thing…”

“No really Sherlock!?” Christian shot back in a sarcastic tone. “And here I was thinking that it was a natural occurrence.” He snapped his fingers, “Shucks. Wrong again. Look, just leave it alone alright?”

“Fine, whatever, it’s your life. Though, wake me up again with your ‘nothing’ problem, and you may just lose your life.”

Christian threw his roommate another glare and picked himself up off his bed. He proceeded to the bathroom, where he closed the door and quickly turned on the taps to the sink and waited for it fill up with hot water. He cupped his hands, stuck them in the water, and bent over the sink where he went on to splash his face.

Face sopping wet and glistening with water, he straightened up and looked at himself in the mirror. His pink eyes glared at the man glaring right back, that man wasn’t him. Christian had an urge just to smash the mirror right then and there, but he really didn’t feel like paying for something else. But he wished that this demon would leave him and let him live a normal life for once.

He closed his eyes and leaned against the wall and then slid down it until he was sitting on the floor. He took his head in both his hands and clenched tightly. He wished she would just get out of his head once and for all, but once he thought of that he felt a pain and this one shot right through his heart. His hands slid into his hair and tightly grabbed at it.

He took a few moments to breathe in and out and closed his eyes to set his mind in focus. His head felt like it was swimming in an ocean of confused thoughts. For some reason, Christian couldn’t fix his mind straight and figure out why he was having these dreams. It had been 4 and a half years for pete sake and he wasn’t over her yet!? He cursed softly as he stared at the ceiling. He was letting some girl take over his life, the thoughts of her controlling how he acted.

Christian sighed and his eyes glazed over. She wasn’t just “some” girl though; she was “the” girl. A smile appeared on his face as he remembered the time they had wrestled in the snow in his third year. It was after he had apologized for acting stupid and completely saying the wrong thing. They had made up and all was good again and then they started a snowball fight.

The memories just kept on rushing in. He chuckled softly to himself as he remembered when Professor Vindictus had scolded the two of them for playing with their food at an opening feast. And then there were that time in the seventh year when they were sitting underneath a tree in the orchard and an apple fell out and knocked Christian on his head. Christian’s pink eyes twinkled happily as he remembered one incident when he had ran away because there was a spider and Mallory was on the floor, killing herself laughing, while Fabian Clark shook his head, watching the boy run away in disbelief.

And then the image of when they had stood on Platform Nine and Three Quarters for the last time and his hand was sliding out of hers, and the tears that ran down her face. He felt the pain in his heart again and his quick paced breathing returned. He closed his eyes again and imagined her smile and the pain began to subside, but then the nightmare butted its way back in and the pain intensified. He clutched at his chest and closed his eyes trying to think about her, but nothing worked.

Christian knew his roommate was right. He was running away from her and eventually he would be running away from sanity.

Poor Christian. He's haunted by the memories of her. This is the part where I get mad at him coz he's proving that some dudes are just too dang scared to show their feelings.

DOOD. Just write to her already! The worst she could do is not write back. [well, she might break your heart, but you sorta broke hers....]

Okay, stop talking to the characters now. This is one of my fave chapters....
