Olivia was quietly making dinner on August 31, silently dreading the next day. I don’t know anyone there… except Draco… I wish I were going back home… I miss my dad.
Olivia watched as her uncle strode to the table and, once again, began to study some papers he brought with him.

Olivia turned towards him after a moment. “Uncle, can I ask you something?”

Severus didn’t look up from his papers. “You already did.”

Olivia rolled her eyes. “I mean… something else? After this question?”

Severus bent lower to his papers; Olivia could have sworn she saw him smile. “You may ask anything you like.”

Anything I like? Somehow I doubt that. “What are those papers you’re reading?”

Severus quickly gathered his papers and stood up. “They are just papers for Hogwarts. School business.” He strode to his bed room and shut the door.

What are those papers?!

I'm sorry. I slept almost all day, then had to go out. Story post in about an hour (have to write it)

Sorry guys, no more info on the mysterious papers... yet. Olivia will be at school for a bit before she starts to find out about them.

Anyway, here's more as promised:

Severus emerged from his bedroom a couple of minutes later holding Olivia’s wand. Olivia looked at it longingly and her uncle turned it around so the handle was pointed toward her. She eagerly reached for her wand but Severus pulled it back a little.

“You understand that you are not to do magic until you’re at Hogwarts, or at least on the train?”

“Yes, Uncle.”

Severus searched Olivia’s face for a moment then advanced the wand towards her. “Then put this with your school supplies; I’ll finish making dinner.”

Olivia took the wand and obediently went to the living room to put it in her duffle bag with the rest of her school supplies.

When she arrived back into the kitchen-dining area she saw her uncle placing food on the table. Having just had her wand returned to her, Olivia thought she had better not push the subject of the papers anymore. But maybe that was his intention by giving the wand back? Don’t be silly. He had to give it back eventually; it is school tomorrow.

They ate their dinner quietly and went to bed without much conversation between them.



Olivia was having the nicest dream about torturing new first years with her best friend Alex when she heard a cold voice say. “That’s enough.”

Olivia rolled into her pillow and mumbled. “Just having fun… don’t mean nuthin’ by it…”

“Olivia, get up!”

Olivia jumped and looked around in bewilderment. “Oh, it’s you.” She looked groggily at her uncle.

Severus smirked. “Indeed. It’s me. Get up for school.” He strode out of the living room and Olivia thought she heard something cooking on the stove.

Olivia dragged her feet as she plodded towards the bathroom. She slowly got dressed and grabbed her duffle bag from the living room.

When Olivia entered the dining room she saw French toast laid on a plate where she usually sat and her uncle finishing off his own plateful.

Olivia sat down and silently started eating.

“The train leaves at eleven, which means we leave in 20 minutes. Do you have your ticket?”

Olivia dug in her bag and pulled out the ticket, looking at it for the first time. “Platform 9 and ¾? Is everything in the United Kingdom strange?”

Severus’ jaw tightened. “It’s a magical platform. You get on it by walking between platforms 9 and 10. Eat your breakfast.”

Olivia put a piece of French toast in her mouth, chewed, swallowed, and then spoke again. “Are you coming on the train too?”

“No.”

Olivia furrowed her brow. “How are you getting there then? Floo powder?”

“No.” Severus looked at his niece sternly. “I am going by the Knight Bus… It is a magical bus that takes witches or wizards to wherever they need to go… Now eat.”

Olivia rolled her eyes and ate the rest of her breakfast.

Tee hee... Torturing first years? Definately part of the Snape family.

Sounds an awful like my mother when I was in middle school...

It was ten minutes to eleven when Olivia and Severus made there way through Kings Cross Station.
“Right, now. Go straight through the barrier and get on the train right away. Make sure you don’t miss it. You have ten minutes so there should be no excuse.”

Olivia looked up at her uncle with a frightened look on her face. “You mean you’re not even going to come with me through the barrier?”

Severus sighed and looked at his watch. “If I don’t leave soon, you’ll arrive at Hogwarts before I do. I have to catch the Knight Bus.”

“Why don’t you just come on the train?” Olivia watched as her uncle’s face moved into a gesture that was half way between a sneer and an ironic smile. “Or… or I could come on the Knight Bus with you?” She looked at him imploringly but he seemed to be looking behind her.

Olivia turned around to see a strange looking family all with red hair striding towards them.

“It’s best that you just get on the train.” Olivia looked back at her uncle as he spoke in a strained voice. “Good luck.”

And with that, Severus Snape swept off, barely nodding at the parents of this obviously wizard family.

Olivia turned towards the barrier and reluctantly walked towards the very solid-looking wall, duffle bag in hand.

Ahh picture Snape sitting beside Harry on the train!!!

The platform was a mess of students and parents all bustling around, saying the last goodbyes before the train would take all the little progeny off to learn strange spells and pungent potions.

Olivia felt a pain of jealousy but quickly hid it when she saw Draco Malfoy sauntering towards her. Lovely, I bet he’ll want me to sit with him.

Draco was flanked by two very large boys that he introduced as Crabbe and Goyle.

What? They don’t have last names? Or firsts? Olivia thought it would be best not to ask.

“So then, you’ll want to sit with me on the train.” It was more like an order than a question or suggestion. Draco leaned forward. “You know, I could get rid of these two… if you want to be… alone.” As he said this last part he gave a sort of half smirk and arched his eyebrows.

Olivia tried not to shudder at the thought. She was about to say something of the effect that she didn’t know where she was sitting, and trying to make up a good excuse, when a dark haired girl came up to Draco and put her arms around his neck.

“There you are Draco, darling, I’ve been looking for you everywhere.” She gave him a quick peck on the cheek and then looked back at Olivia. “Oh, and who are you?”

Olivia arched her eyebrows at the girl’s antics. You can have him. “Olivia Snape, and you are?”

“Pansy Parkinson.” The girl put her hand out for a quick shake, then placed it on Draco’s chest.

Parkinson? Like the disease? “Nice to meet you.”

“Snape did you say? You’re not related to the potions master are you?”

“She’s his niece.” Draco didn’t seem very pleased by how this scene was playing out.

“Well, I’d better find a place on the train, later.” Olivia walked away trying very hard not to laugh as she boarded the train. Well it looks like I won’t have to sit with him… but where will I sit?
