‘Travis Burke.’ At the mention of his name, Carly zoned off.

‘Travis? Hot Quidditch guy Travis?’ I exclaimed loudly.

‘SHH! And yes, hot Quidditch guy Travis!’ She replied with a grin.

‘But, isn’t he really quiet and kinda hard to get or something?’ I asked. He didn’t really seem interested in school dating.

‘Well, not if you get to know him! I was up late with him last night just talking. And he even walked me back to Gryffindor’s Common Room after curfew! He’s shy at first, but wow, those eyes, the way he looks at me when he talks, it’s like I’m the only one there!’ Carly once again started day dreaming.

‘Wow, I think you’re in love.’ I stated.

The news of her and Travis going out spread fast. He asked her out the next day, romantically, she claimed.

I was so happy for her. Every girl who tried to get him failed except for Carly and they were all jealous.

She made it look amazing whenever Travis neared her. He would look at her and you could almost hear his heart beat fast. You could see how much they cared about each other.

On Friday night, she told me how she felt about him, how her heart stopped whenever she saw him. He told me how she was the most beautiful person he’d ever met, inside and out. She said how kissing him was like the first kiss every time. And he told me that he would die for her.

I was jealous.

It was because Harry and I weren’t the same. I never felt my heart stop when I saw him. I didn’t feel like our kisses was that great, and he probably would die for me, but only out of friendship.

Maybe Carly was right. We forced ourselves to believe we were in love.
I wanted what Carly had though.

It looked like the best thing ever.

People didn’t expect Carly and Travis to last, but they did.

On Saturday I woke up and got dressed for Hogsmeade.

‘Hey Hermione, you look great.’ Harry said and kissed me when he saw me.

I smiled at him. This was not right.

‘Carly’s going to Hogsmeade with Travis obviously.’ Ron told us. ‘And Ginny isn’t coming with us. It’s just like the old days, the three of us again.’ He forced a smile.

But it wasn’t like the old days, because now Harry and I were an item and I knew Ron wasn’t as comfortable around us as he use to be.

We left the school grounds and I sighed happily as we entered Hogsmeade.

I hadn’t been here for so long, and was so pleased with how it looked. Some places had actually decorated for Christmas, which was more than a month away.

At Hogwarts there was going to be a Christmas Ball for the sixth and seventh year students, which Harry asked me to ahead of time.

We went for Butterbeer in the Three Broomsticks, and talked about who Ron would go with.

‘Shut up you guys!’ He complained when we made fun of him.

‘You could always go alone, that way you can dance with as many girls as you like.’ Harry said drinking his bottle.

‘True, but it’s really embarrassing to go alone you know.’ Ron sighed looking around.

I noticed Carly and Travis walking outside and waved to them. They waved back, then Carly went back to her deep conversation with him. I could tell the difference when they looked at each other, and when they looked at anyone else in the eye.

They made such a striking couple. They reminded me of actors in a Muggle love movie.

Harry informed Ron he would try to hook him up for the dance since Ron was too cowardly to ask anyone himself.

I headed back at eight for my detention with Malfoy, after visiting Fred and George in their shop which was very successful.

‘Granger!’ Malfoy shouted from behind me.

I turned to see him saying goodbye to Crabbe and Goyle, and he ran to catch up to me.

‘Hey.’ I said simply as he walked beside me. ‘Finally coming to detention on time?’ I asked.

He chuckled. ‘Yeah. Are you going to the Christmas Ball?’

‘Yes.’ I replied simply.

‘Harry?’

‘Yep.’ I sighed. I didn’t want to go for some reason.

ooohhhhh........i hope draco asks hermione to the ball!!!!

Pams!!!!!!!!!!!!!

aw, poor hermione. i feel the emotion-charged break up coming closer!lol and then maybe draco'll comfort her...*goes off in romantic hr/d fantasy where takes complete control of ff plot*

We went in a hallway and were told by McGonagall to clean the floors where there was weird bubbling red liquid. Some third years had gotten into a fight and one cast a spell that flooded the hallway, which was sealed off.

We were supposed to clean it without our wands.

As we scrubbed, I had to ask him. ‘Are you going to Ball?'
'Yes,' He answered.
'Who’s the unfortunate girl this time?’
‘Unfortunate?’ He laughed looking me in the eye.

I wondered if he put a spell on himself to make girls drool whenever he stared at them with his grey eyes like that. If he did, it definitely worked on me.

He smiled and stopped scrubbing, ‘Actually, I want to go alone. Better way to get more girls.’

I rolled my eyes. ‘Of course.’

‘You hear about Carly and Travis?’ He asked dipping his cloth into water.

‘Yeah.’

‘I hate to say it, but their relationship looks better than when she was with me.’

‘Draco Malfoy, admitting someone else looks better with a girl? This must be a first.’

‘Hey!’ Draco splashed some water at me.

‘You know it’s true!’ I said splashing a bit more back.

Smart move Hermione. This is gonna be an instant replay of the first day.

‘Yes, but still! I meant cause they’re in love.’ He splashed more water at me, causing my shirt to soak.

‘Oh no you didn’t! I just got this shirt!’ I yelled splashing water back at him.

‘But it looks better wet.’ He said laughing.

We splashed and splashed until we were covered in water, our clothes dripping.

He stood up and pulled off his shirt to reveal that amazing body.

WHY?

He wrung it out, and then put it back on, noticing my staring.

‘It’s drier now.’ He stated. ‘You should do the same.’ He added with his signature smirk.

I scoffed but left my soaking shirt on.

‘You could get sick.’ He said.

‘Probably.’ I replied. It was quite uncomfortable, but I wasn’t going to strip in front of him.

‘Fine,’ He took out his wand, which was suppose to lay untouched for this detention, and conjured up a shirt somehow. He was really talented with magic, I have to say. He tossed the white t-shirt at me. ‘Put it on. I won’t look, you can trust me.’ He turned around and started to scrub the floor.

I sighed and turned around reluctantly. The hallway was empty, since it was blocked off, and he was the only one here, facing the other way.

I turned my back towards him and pulled off my wet shirt, quickly putting on the fresh one. Glancing at him, he was still scrubbing.

‘Thanks.’ I mumbled and went back to scrubbing.

After the detention, I walked with Draco to our Common Rooms.
‘Do you want the shirt back?’ I asked him when I stopped at the Gryffindor Common Room.

‘Yeah, right now please. Take it off.’ He said grinning.

I laughed. ‘Yeah, right.’

‘I’m kidding, keep it. I’ll see you later Granger.’ He said leaving me with a wink.

I entered the Common Room, dried and still in the new shirt.

‘Hey Hermione! When did you change?’ Carly asked.

‘Oh, just before.’ I told her about the water fight and she was beaming at me way too much at the end.

‘You guys are too cute.’ She said simply when I finished.

‘Cute?’ I asked.

‘Yeah, cute together. I think you melted his icy heart.’ She said turning to watch Harry and Ron who were working on homework by the fire.

‘I don’t know what you’re talking about. Anyways, I think I’m bored with Harry.’ I told her.

I couldn’t believe I just said that. Carly didn’t seem surprised however.

‘I know.’ She replied, making my guilt disappear.

‘So should I still go with him to the Christmas dance?’ I asked.

‘It depends. Just wait and see what happens.’ She seemed so wise. I decided to listen to her.

She did know more about relationships than I did.

We stayed up till midnight talking about random things. Mostly guys.

A Quidditch match was scheduled today for Slytherin and Gryffindor.

I wished Harry, Ron and Ginny good luck at breakfast and then they left to the change rooms.

‘I hope Slytherin wins!’ Carly said when we walked out to the filled stands.

‘Why?’ I asked. ‘Not even our own house?’

She laughed. ‘I want Travis to win. I mean, don’t you want Malfoy’s team to win?’

I thought about that. Was I wrong to want that? Even though Harry was on the opposite team?

The Slytherin team was introduced by Lee Jordan, who was glad that Fred and George came to spectate Gryffindor’s first match of the year.

‘..Burke, Kenneth, and lastly the new captain, Malfoy.’ He announced so it echoed loudly throughout the stands.

‘Travis looks so hot.’ Carly sighed and blew a kiss to Travis who smiled blew one back. How sweet.

Some guys laughed while girls awwed. Love can make you do embarrassing things, I realised. I watched as the Gryffindor team was announced, but my eyes travelled back to the Slytherins. Malfoy looked really good in his Quidditch robes. His blond hair was unkempt, as though he had just been flying.

I can’t believe I keep doing this. I was always, always checking him out these days. But I couldn’t help it.

And Carly noticed. ‘Not even your own boyfriend..’ She said in a sing-song voice.

I laughed. ‘I know. Ok, so maybe I think Draco looks good. That’s it though I swear!’

Carly shrugged and smirked. ‘Are you sure?’ She whispered.

We sat through the entire match and finally, Harry caught the snitch. Gryffindor won the match fairly, so why was I upset?

‘YES!! Did you see Malfoy’s face?? He was so mad when you caught the snitch!’ Ron said jumping around as he and the rest of the team left the change room in commotion.

I smiled and went up to Harry, who kissed me on the lips. ‘Congratulations.’ I said quite dully.

‘Yeah, great job guys! Hey, we’ll be right back, I’m gonna go find Travis.’ Carly smiled.

‘Yeah yeah, meet us at the party.’ Ron said as he and a stampede of Gryffindor’s left.

‘Why do I have to come with you?’ I asked as we walked towards the Slytherin change room.

‘Because, you get to talk to Malfoy.’ She said turning around to face me, walking backwards.
‘Carly!’ I groaned and followed her, where we met about half of the Quidditch team. Including ugly drunk guy from last time.
‘Hey, Burke, Malfoy, it’s your girlfriends!’ He said grinning at us as we neared.

‘Girlfriend? Hermione isn’t your girlfriend is she?’ Asked Travis who was holding Carly around the waist. Carly looked up at him and somehow without words he understood.

‘Yeah she is.’ Malfoy said looking annoyed.

‘Well, if you ever break up with her, I’m here Granger!’ Drunk guy said with a wink that made me shiver.

Draco looked about ready to punch him. ‘I won’t break up with her. She's too hot.’ He said taking me in his strong arms and winking down at me with his sparkling grey eyes.
Everyone laughed and I rolled my eyes at him but he gave me a cute smirk.
Was he angry that drunk guy was hitting on me again? Maybe he was jealous.

I smiled up at him, and he smiled back.

‘Thanks.’ I whispered.

We continued walking, and I can't say I wasn't thrilled to have Draco Malfoy holding me like he was. I glanced up at him quickly, eyeing his very messy hair, which looked wind swept, and then into his deep eyes. They were almost a pale blue. I sighed and went off into lala land, until he looked down at me. The rest of the team except Carly and Travis left, and he took his arms away, but our eyes remained locked.

I was so attracted to him. He was so sweet, kind of like my hero.

So I liked him… A lot.
