Draco

I allowed myself to laugh at Granger as she scurried to gather her fallen school supplies. You don’t know how much amusement I got out of watching her freak out. I watched her until she disappeared into her class without even a backwards glance at me. Shrugging to myself, I sighed inwardly and trudged to my next class.

Us boys were in our dormitories that night, under the covers of our own four-poster beds. The lights were out and I was staring absent-mindedly at the ceiling. Crabbe and Goyle were already snoring.

“Is Pansy still stalking you?” Blaise asked me with a tease in his voice.

I snorted. “I hope not, but I think she is. I wish she’d get someone else to stick to. Seriously, maybe if she was better looking, I might consider her, but the way she is now? No way.”

Blaise chuckled. “Then you don’t like anyone?”

I thought quickly for a moment. “I don’t know,” I finally decided was safe to say. I ensured that I wouldn’t mention anything about Granger.

“Oh yeah, Draco, I know you’re in love with Eloise acne queen. Or maybe Moaning Myrtle? No, wait, it’s that mudblood Granger that scores the highest.” He laughed at his quick “wit”, as he called it.

My face flushed at the last name, and I was very glad that he couldn’t see it, as it was dark. “Yeah right,” I sneered. “What about you?” I was determined to change the subject.

“No one at the moment,” Blaise said confidently.

I secretly wondered if he was blushing himself, like I was.

Hermione

Us Gryffindor girls were a giggly bunch a few nights after. It was a Friday night, so there was no school the next day; we could relax. I shared my dormitory with Parvati Patil, Lavender Brown, and Ginny Weasley. It was the smallest dormitory, but had plenty of space for the four of us.

This night in particular, the girls were discussing which boys liked who, which was one of the usual topics. Either Parvati or Lavender always suggested this subject matter. Usually, I tried working on some homework but ended up joining in the discussion anyways.

“…But how do you know if they like you or not?” I heard Ginny ask curiously.

“Well,” Parvati began, with the air of an expert, “They stare at you, for one thing.”

“And they bother you,” Lavender added. “Whether it’s scribbling with ink all over your parchment or hexing you with a harmless curse.”

“But what if they like being mean to you?” I piped up finally, not being able to bear it any longer. Of course, I had Malfoy in mind.

Lavender looked at me thoughtfully. “Well, they still probably like you. I mean, they just want that attention from you, right?” She sighed heavily. “Boys here really don’t know how to flirt.” Then her face lit up. “Hey, I just answered a question for Hermione! Wow!” She breathed in, closing her eyes blissfully. “Take in the moment…”

“Oh, stop it,” I said, slapping her arm playfully. “I can’t know everything!”
